Background And Aims: The selective removal of tattoos and benign cutaneous pigmented lesions with laser energy evolved rapidly with the development of the nanosecond-domain Q-switched laser (ns-laser). Recently, however, a series of picosecond-domain lasers (ps-lasers) with pulsewidths less than 1 ns has become commercially available, enabling more efficient and faster removal of pigmented lesions in the field of dermatologic laser surgery.

Rationale Behind The Ps-laser: The efficacy of the ns-laser depended on the theory of selective photothermolysis, whereby an extremely short pulse width was delivered less than the thermal relaxation time (TRT) of a target.

Congenital ptosis with poor levator function is most often repaired with a frontalis suspension procedure. Autogenous fascia lata grafting is generally effective, with low rates of infection and granuloma formation. However, contraction of the grafted fascia lata may cause eyelash inversion, tarsal deformity, and/or lagophthalmos.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of adhesiotomy with grafting of fat and perifascial areolar tissue (A-GFPAT) on eyes with restricted eye movements after trauma or surgery.

Design: Single-center retrospective interventional, consecutive case series.

Methods: Twenty-four eyes of 24 patients that underwent A-GFPAT were studied.

Purpose: To describe surgical treatment of acquired Brown syndrome by trochlea reconstruction and trochlea adhesiotomy.

Methods: The medical records of patients with acquired Brown syndrome who underwent intraoperative forced duction testing under direct view of the trochlea from 2010 to 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. In all cases, the site of restricted movement was identified, after which either the trochlea was reconstructed or the trochlear adhesion was removed.

Introduction: Congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction with facial malformation may accompany atresia of the nasolacrimal duct. We report a case of congenital bony obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct with cleft lip and palate.

Case: A 2-year-old boy with obstruction of both lacrimal system.

Background: To report three cases of severe complications after frontalis suspension using autogenous fascia lata

Cases: All three cases showed lagophthalmos and eyelash inversion after frontalis suspension using autogenous fascia lata. During surgery, we found that the tarsus was raised upwards and distorted by the fascia lata which had contracted and adhered to the surrounding tissue. We excised the adhesion of the fascia lata.

Purpose: To compare nylon monofilament suture with polytetrafluoroethylene sheet for frontalis suspension surgery to treat eyes with congenital ptosis.

Design: Retrospective, nonrandomized, comparative, interventional case series.

Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 49 patients who had undergone 79 eyelid frontalis suspension surgeries to treat congenital ptosis.

Purpose: To review the clinical features and management of circumscribed choroidal hemangioma.

Methods: Twenty eight cases of circumscribed choroidal hemangioma diagnosed at Tokyo Medical University Hospital from 1991 through 2008 were reviewed. We retrospectively studied the frequency of the individual tumors, gender, age, size of tumors, presence of serous detachment and hyperopia, management and outcome.

Purpose: We treated a case of orbital granular cell tumor originating from the inferior oblique muscle.

Case: A 55-year-old woman complained of diplopia and induration of the left lower eyelid. Downward rotation of the left eye was restricted.

Eyelash hairs have certain unique properties such as parallel direction, limited length, and tapering, which makes eyelash reconstruction considerably difficult. Several methods for eyelash reconstruction have been reported. Among them, strip composite eyebrow graft is the most suitable because the properties of eyebrow hairs are very similar to those of the original eyelash hairs.
