Article Synopsis
  • EZH2, an overexpressed protein in various cancers, plays a dual role in the tumor microenvironment (TME) and is considered a target for cancer therapy, especially in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
  • The EZH2 inhibitor UNC1999 was shown to reduce the growth and induce cell death in mouse HCC cells, but its effectiveness was reduced in certain mouse strains due to changes in immune cell populations within the TME.
  • Combining UNC1999 with an antibody that targets myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) improved the antitumor response, suggesting that therapies that target both EZH2 and MDSCs could be an effective strategy for treating HCC.

Both EZH2 and its homolog EZH1 function as histone H3 Lysine 27 (H3K27) methyltransferases and repress the transcription of target genes. Dysregulation of H3K27 trimethylation (H3K27me3) plays an important role in the development and progression of cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study investigated the relationship between the expression of EZH1/2 and the level of H3K27me3 in HCC.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is typically accompanied by abundant arterial blood flow. Although angiogenic growth factors such as Angiopoietin 2 (Ang2) play a central role in tumor angiogenesis in HCC, the role of serum Ang2 as a biomarker in HCC remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the potential of Ang2 as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in HCC using a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
