Background: Whole-grain consumption is associated with several health benefits. Little is known, however, about whole-grain consumption patterns in medical students in Malaysia.

Objectives: The study was conducted to assess whole-grain intake pattern and factors influencing intake among Malaysian medical students.

Hypereosinophilia responding to empirical antihelminthic treatment.

We report a 20-year-old college student presents with bilateral ankle edema associated with hypereosinophilia following a history of traveling in a rural area. Physical examinations and investigations failed to diagnose any underlying cause. She was treated with antihelminth medication and the edema subsided within a week and the eosinophil counts normalized within two weeks.

A mass on the palate.

A university student, 20 years of age, noticed a mass on her palate one morning while looking in the mirror. She has not experienced any symptoms such as pain or discomfort.

Is there a place for selective vaginal breech delivery in Malaysian hospitals: experiences from the Ipoh Hospital.

Background: The 'Term Breech Trial' (TBT) results of 2001 have impacted on the mode of delivery of breech with a low threshold for caesarean delivery (CD) worldwide.

Aims: The trends in mode of delivery in developing countries have also changed. The aims of this retrospective analysis of all breech presentation was to see if similar trends are seen in Ipoh Hospital in Malaysia and if perinatal outcome is affected by mode of delivery.

Risk factors for fragility fracture in Seremban district, Malaysia: a comparison of patients with fragility fracture in the orthopedic ward versus those in the outpatient department.

Osteoporosis is a silent disease and becomes clinically significant in the presence of fragility fracture. Identifying risk factors that are associated with osteoporosis in the community is important in reducing the incidence of fragility fracture. The aim of this study is to identify risk factors associated with fragility fracture in the Seremban District of Malaysia.

A 'target' skin lesion.

A boy, 12 years of age, was being treated for pneumonia. The cold haemagglutination test was positive for Mycoplasma pneumoniae. He developed an isolated asymptomatic skin lesion on his lower limb which disappeared completely after 1 week.

A man with contracted fingers.

An Indian man from Malaysia presented with contracture of his hands. He is 55 years of age and has a history of chronic alcohol consumption. Examination revealed bilateral thickened structure at the palms.

A painful gum.

This middle aged Malaysian man presented complaining of painful gums for a few months. He is known to have had epilepsy since childhood.

Painful nodules on the fingers and toes.

A 25 year old college student with a past history of congenital heart disease presented with high grade fever and palpitations. He complained of painful red nodules on his finger pulp and his toes.

Exploring terminally ill patients' and their families' perceptions of holistic care in Malaysia.

Aim: To document the perception of terminally ill patients and their family members on the care provided to them, and to look at the components of holistic care that are viewed as inadequate.

Methods: Thirty cancer patients from a 10-bed palliative ward and their family members who were the chief carers were interviewed. They were asked to give their perceptions on four major areas of care: physical, social, psychological and spiritual.
