The nature of data obtainable from the commercial smartphone - bolstered by a translational model emphasizing the impact of social and physical zeitgebers on circadian rhythms and mood - offers the possibility of scalable and objective vital signs for major depression. Our objective was to explore associations between passively sensed behavioral smartphone data and repeatedly measured depressive symptoms to suggest which features could eventually lead towards vital signs for depression. We collected continuous behavioral data and bi-weekly depressive symptoms (PHQ-8) from 131 psychiatric outpatients with a lifetime DSM-5 diagnosis of depression and/or anxiety over a 16-week period.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAs the geoenergy sector moves toward more sustainable practices, an emerging field of research is the proposed utilization of cyclic hydraulic pressure pulses to safely and efficiently enhance productivity. We demonstrate how cyclic hydraulic pressure pulses can reduce hydraulic breakdown pressure in granite using newly developed experimental equipment, which applies pulsed square waves of fluid pressure to large bench-top samples, monitored with dynamic high-resolution fiber optic strain sensors. Our results show a significant reduction in breakdown pressure can be achieved by cyclic pulsed pumping, and we explore the role of mean pressure and cyclic amplitude.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA 75-year-old male with head-and-neck squamous cell cancer received a staging f-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) scan which showed additional focal abnormal uptake in the right hepatic lobe. The patient was treated for probable metastatic disease. Restaging FDG PET/CT scan revealed resolution of uptake in the head-and-neck and persistent focal uptake in the presumed liver metastasis.

Despite high screen failure and small sample size, a nominally significant increase in sHCO was seen for sodium zirconium cyclosilicate versus placebo. Further studies on the basis of an appropriate cohort size may help validate the trend observed in sHCO levels, supporting these clinically relevant findings.

This Letter reports the observation of single top quarks produced together with a photon, which directly probes the electroweak coupling of the top quark. The analysis uses 139 fb^{-1} of 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Requiring a photon with transverse momentum larger than 20 GeV and within the detector acceptance, the fiducial cross section is measured to be 688±23(stat) _{-71}^{+75}(syst) fb, to be compared with the standard model prediction of 515_{-42}^{+36} fb at next-to-leading order in QCD.

Methods: Eighteen patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa) were prospectively recruited for the study and randomised to one of three test-retest groups: (i) intratracer [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET, (ii) intratracer [F]F-PSMA-1007 PET or (iii) intertracer between [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 and [F]F-PSMA-1007 PET. Four conventional PET metrics (standardised uptake value (SUV), SUV, SUV and volume) and 107 radiomics features were extracted from 75 lesions and assessed using the repeatability coefficient (RC) and the ICC.
Coincidental with the intensified regulatory and industry focus on the design and conduct of human absorption, metabolism, and excretion (hAME) studies in the past 12 months, we have recently completed our 500th cohort involving radiolabeled test item administration to humans. Here, we build upon a recent industry white paper in this journal and share some of our own experiences as a Contract Research Organization based upon collaborations with numerous pharma companies and their differing approaches to design and timing, to add further context to the discussion regarding hAME studies and the pivotal role that drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics plays. In this article, we explore how both changing relationships within the industry and shifting regulatory guidelines are impacting strategies, and compare EU and US pre-study approval requirements, before evaluating the trends from over 500 studies conducted at our global facilities conducted over more than 30 years.
