Background: Fosravuconazole L-lysine ethanolate (F-RVCZ) is a prodrug of ravuconazole and a triazole antifungal drug used for the treatment of onychomycosis. It has been reported in previous studies that the kidney injury caused by F-RVCZ is 1% or less.

Methods: Serum creatinine levels were compared, and glomerular filtration rate and urine protein were estimated before and after starting the administration of F-RVCZ, as well as after the end of the administration period.

Tosufloxacin tosilate is classified as a new quinolone antibacterial agent, which has been reported to cause crystal nephropathy. However, the origin of these crystal deposits has not yet been elucidated. We encountered a case of renal failure that progressed slowly owing to crystal-forming interstitial nephritis after long-term exposure to tosufloxacin.

Background: It is well known that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors can cause proteinuria. The incidence of proteinuria is high for bevacizumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody directed against VEGF, but the range of proteinuria rarely becomes nephrotic (2.2% occurrence according to a meta-analysis).

Cyst infection is one of the major complications in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). The causative pathogen in kidney cyst infection frequently goes undetected. Although only one case report of kidney cyst infection caused by Helicobacter cinaedi (H.

Kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) taking immunosuppressive drugs have a 20-fold greater risk of nontyphoidal Salmonella (NTS) infection than the healthy adult population. Among KTRs, the urinary tract is the most common site of infection. However, few cases of urinary tract infection caused by NTS have been documented in KTRs, and only one in Japan.

Patients with renal insufficiency receiving long-term hemodialysis often develop so-called hemodialysis amyloidosis characterized by systemic β 2-microglobulin amyloid lesions, while patients with renal cell carcinoma may develop amyloid A(AA) amyloidosis. Herein, we present a 67-year-old man on thirty-yearlong hemodialysis who was diagnosed to have left renal cell carcinoma coincident with a large spaceoccupying lesion adjacent to the psoas muscle in the pelvic cavity. An ultrasound-guided percutaneous needle biopsy was performed at the time of laparoscopic radical nephrectomy.

A 24-year-old woman with a high fever presented at our hospital. She had been diagnosed with Kabuki syndrome at the age of 4 years because she had the typical facial features of the condition ; she had undergone living donor renal transplantation 12 years prior. She was prescribed a course of antibiotics to treat pyelonephritis of the transplanted kidney and the high fever disappeared, but the fever developed again 3 days after the discharge.

Aim: To determine whether the endoscopic findings of depressed-type early gastric cancers (EGCs) could precisely predict the histological type.

Methods: Ninety depressed-type EGCs in 72 patients were macroscopically and histologically identified. We evaluated the microvascular (MV) and mucosal surface (MS) patterns of depressed-type EGCs using magnifying endoscopy (ME) with narrow-band imaging (NBI) (NBI-ME) and ME enhanced by 1.

Aim: To identify the characteristics of gastric tube cancer (GTC) and the complications associated with endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for GTC.

Methods: Between 2007 and 2012, 11 individuals with early gastric cancer in the reconstructed gastric tube after esophagectomy who underwent ESD in this hospital were studied. The characteristics of GTC were identified, and the complications of ESD for GTC were analyzed at three phases: preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative.

The usefulness of magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) for the diagnosis of early gastric cancer is well known, however, there are no evaluation criteria. The aim of this study was to devise and evaluate a novel diagnostic algorithm for ME-NBI in depressed early gastric cancer. Between August, 2007 and May, 2011, 90 patients with a total of 110 depressed gastric lesions were enrolled in the study.

A 76-year-old man presented with fever of unknown origin and renal dysfunction. Laboratory examination revealed anemia, thrombocytopenia, hypoalbuminemia, proteinuria, and elevations of C-reactive protein, lactic dehydrogenase, creatinine and ferritin. (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) imaging showed FDG accumulation in the renal cortex and spleen.

A 65-year-old Japanese male developed renal dysfunction, showing proteinuria and marked urinary excretion of beta2-microglobulin. He had consumed approximately 100-200 g peanuts and 750-1,000 ml beer every day for two or three months. He had previously been treated for hypertension with an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, enalapril.

Acute inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) synthase causes a reversible alteration in myocardial substrate metabolism. We tested the hypothesis that prolonged NO synthase inhibition alters cardiac metabolic phenotype. Seven chronically instrumented dogs were treated with N(omega)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME, 35 mg.

Nitric oxide (NO) inhibits myocardial glucose transport and metabolism, although the underlying mechanism(s) and functional consequences of this effect are not clearly understood. We tested the hypothesis that NO inhibits the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and translocation of cardiac glucose transporters (GLUTs; GLUT-4) and reduces lactate production. Ischemia was induced in open-chest dogs by a 66% flow reduction in the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD).

Free fatty acid (FFA) oxidation is depressed in severe heart failure due to reduced activity of mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation enzymes. It is unknown whether the concomitant enhancement in cardiac glucose use is a consequence of reduced FFA oxidation, or also due to potentiation of the carbohydrate oxidative pathway. FFA and glucose oxidation rates were measured in vivo in 9 normal dogs and 9 dogs with pacing-induced heart failure by infusing (3)H-oleate and (14)C-glucose.
