Curcumin has been reported to exert its anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity by inhibiting the binding of spike receptor-binding domain (RBD) to angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE2). To identify more potent compounds, we evaluated the antiviral activities of curcumin and its analogs in SARS-CoV-2-infected cells. An artificial intelligence-supported activity prediction system was used to select the compounds, and 116 of the 334 curcumin analogs were proposed to have spike RBD-ACE2 binding inhibitory activity.

Design: Cross-sectional study using existing data of the 2017 Japan National Health and Wellness Survey (NHWS).
Setting: Nationally representative sample of persons (in terms of age and gender) living in the general community aged 18 years or older in Japan.
Although a certain level of efficacy and safety of several vaccine products against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) have been established, unmet medical needs for orally active small molecule therapeutic drugs are still very high. As a key drug target molecule, SARS-CoV-2 main protease (M) is focused and large number of screenings, a part of which were supported by artificial intelligence (AI), have been conducted to identify M inhibitors both through drug repurposing and drug discovery approaches. In the many drug-repurposing studies, docking simulation-based technologies have been mainly employed and contributed to the identification of several M binders.

Thus far, several IL-6 inhibitors, such as humanized monoclonal antibody have been used to block excessive IL-6 signaling causing autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. However, anti-IL-6 and anti-IL-6 receptor monoclonal antibodies have some clinical disadvantages, such as a high cost, unfavorable injection route, and tendency to mask infectious diseases.

Adjuvant therapy with S-1 may improve survival in patients with BTC. This study examined the safety and efficacy of 1 year adjuvant S-1 therapy for BTC in a multi-institutional trial.

Objective: We assessed differences in postural change between PD patients and unimpaired elderly and elucidated factors related to abnormal posture in PD patients.
Parkinson disease (PD) is a slowly progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons and terminals in the nigrostriatal system. Dopamine transporter (DAT) imaging is widely performed for the differential diagnosis of PD and other degenerative parkinsonism from essential tremor, vascular parkinsonism, and drug-induced parkinsonism. DAT is the plasma membrane carrier specific to dopamine neurons that are responsible for re-uptaking dopamine from the synaptic cleft back into the nerve ending.

Currently, only riluzole and edaravone are approved as drugs to treat ALS and new agents with larger effect sizes are warranted. Exploratory analyses in our previous study (study ID #E0302-J081-761) have suggested that high-dose methylcobalamin (E0302) prolonged the overall survival of ALS patients and suppressed ALS progression in patients with a disease duration of less than 12 months.

The study participants met the following criteria: (i) age ≥ 40 years; (ii) HY stage = 2 or 3; (iii) average specific binding ratio (SBR) ≥2.00; (iv) levodopa administration without a prior history of ZNS use before the first DAT-SPECT (baseline).

Reports documenting anastomotic strictures developing in the early postoperative phase are scant, and no established treatment is available.
Presentation Of Case: A 78-year-old man who had undergone a laparoscopic left hemicolectomy for lower colon cancer presented on postoperative day 12 because of abdominal pain and no bowel movement.
Lomerizine, calcium channel blocker, is the most used medication for migraine prophylaxis in Japan. The effectiveness of this drug is reported as 50-75%. Telmisartan is angiotensin II receptor blockers which plasma half-life is 24 h.

Background: Antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) may increase development of dyslipidemia and cerebrovascular disease (CVD). We examined the clinical profile and changes of serum lipid levels after AED monotherapy in patients with poststroke epilepsy (PSE) after cerebral infarction (CI).
Subjects And Methods: Medical records were reviewed in consecutive 2144 CI patients.
Objective Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by the progressive degeneration of the nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons. Rotigotine is a non-ergot dopamine receptor agonist (DA). Its transdermal patch maintains the effective concentrations for 24 hours.

Patients with typical CTX show neurological dysfunction including bilateral cataracts, paresis, cerebral ataxia, dementia, and psychiatric disorders, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has revealed symmetrical lesions in the cerebellar white matter.
Case Presentation: We report the case of a patient with late-onset spinal form CTX without brain lesion.
Edaravone, a free radical scavenger is used widely in Japanese patients with acute cerebral infarction. This antioxidant could have therapeutic potentials for other neurological diseases. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease that affects the upper and the lower motor neuron, leading to death within 3-5 years after onset.
