Introduction: Pediatric emergency medicine physicians struggle to maintain their critical procedural and resuscitation skills. Continuing professional development programs incorporating simulation and competency-based standards may help ensure skill maintenance. Using a logic model framework, we sought to evaluate the effectiveness of a mandatory annual competency-based medical education (CBME) simulation program.

Background: Night-float systems, in which residents work consecutive nights, have been increasingly adopted in paediatric programs, but may be detrimental to residents' sleep and mood.

Objective: To describe the self-reported impact of a novel system consisting of two consecutive weeks of 16 h overnight shifts every second day that was piloted at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (Ottawa, Ontario).

Methods: A survey of 28 senior paediatric residents examined their experience with the alternate night-float system in three domains (patient care, resident professional development and well-being) and their comparison of the system with the traditional overnight on-call system.

Study Objective: The primary objective of this study is to assess the accuracy of point-of-care ultrasonography compared with blinded orthopedic assessment of fluoroscopy in determining successful realignment of pediatric forearm fractures. The secondary objective is to determine the rate of agreement of ultrasonography and fluoroscopy in real-time by the treating physician.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in children younger than 18 years and presenting to an academic emergency department with forearm fractures requiring realignment of a single bone.

Anthropology is used, among others, in forensic medicine for identification of skeletal remains. The case we would like to introduce concerns the remains of an unknown man, which were subjected to identification tests in anthropological laboratory of the Forensic Medicine Department PAM. Anthropological analysis let us define the basic distinctive features, on the basis of which police selected an individual, whose features corresponded with the collected data.

The anthropological laboratory of the Forensic Medicine Department PAM carries out a lot of cases concerning identification on the basis of skeletal remains. Standard procedures are: anthropological analysis, estimation of time of burial of the remains, characteristics of morbid changes and the cause of death as well as skull based face reconstruction and super-projection. Very often some tiny details can be useful while answering questions relating to the origin of the remains, time of death, or identity of an unknown individual.

Cold ischemia time (CIT) and graft reperfusion events are important nonimmunological factors that influence kidney graft function. The optimal temperature for the organs during CIT ranges from 4 degrees C to 8 degrees C. However, preservation of the designated temperature is usually not controlled during standard storage procedures.
