Coordinated expression of replication-dependent (RD) histones genes occurs within the Histone Locus Body (HLB) during S phase, but the molecular steps in transcription that are cell cycle regulated are unknown. We report that RNA Pol II promotes HLB formation and is enriched in the HLB outside of S phase, including G1-arrested cells that do not transcribe RD histone genes. In contrast, the transcription elongation factor Spt6 is enriched in HLBs only during S phase.

Quantitative abdominal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers non-invasive, objective assessment of diseases in the liver, pancreas, and other organs and is increasingly being used in the pediatric population. Certain quantitative MRI techniques, such as liver proton density fat fraction (PDFF), R2* mapping, and MR elastography, are already in wide clinical use. Other techniques, such as liver T1 mapping and pancreas quantitative imaging methods, are emerging and show promise for enhancing diagnostic sensitivity and treatment monitoring.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the link between hip shape and the risk of hip osteoarthritis and fractures, using data from large cohorts to analyze genetic factors influencing hip shape.
  • Researchers identified numerous genetic signals related to hip shape but found no causal effect of hip shape on osteoarthritis, while certain hip shapes were linked to a higher risk of hip fractures.
  • The findings suggest that focusing on hip shape might not be an effective strategy for preventing osteoarthritis in older adults, despite its association with hip fractures.

Article Synopsis
  • - Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have elevated levels of trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a harmful substance linked to heart disease, and the study explores how gut microbes, specifically methanogenic archaea, might help reduce TMAO by consuming its precursor, trimethylamine (TMA).
  • - The study involved 25 CKD patients, where TMAO levels were measured and gut microbial DNA was sequenced, revealing high TMAO levels and a connection to archaea, particularly a significant negative correlation with the genus Methanobrevibacter.
  • - This research is pioneering in linking TMAO levels with archaea in CKD patients, highlighting the potential role of specific

Flux attachment provides a powerful conceptual framework for understanding certain forms of topological order, including most notably the fractional quantum Hall effect. Despite its ubiquitous use as a theoretical tool, directly realizing flux attachment in a microscopic setting remains an open challenge. Here, we propose a simple approach to realizing flux attachment in a periodically driven (Floquet) system of either spins or hard-core bosons.

Background: Low birth weight (LBW; <2,500 g) affects approximately 15 to 20 percent of global births annually and is associated with suboptimal child development. Recent studies suggest a link between the maternal gut microbiome and poor obstetric and perinatal outcomes. The goal of this study was to examine relationships between maternal microbial taxa, fecal metabolites, and maternal anthropometry on incidence of LBW in resource-limited settings.

Background: The 17-item Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) is a commonly used patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) to assess kinesiophobia, but the measurement properties of the TSK in people with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) are unknown.

Objectives: 1) Revise the existing TSK by removing items, as needed, with inadequate functioning to optimise the TSK for people with FAIS, and 2) evaluate construct validity (both structural validity and hypothesis testing), internal consistency, and minimal important change.

Methods: Cross-sectional cohort study including 153 young adults with FAIS.

Background: Parents often perceive the news that their child has cerebral palsy (CP) as overwhelming and shocking. They are at increased risk of parental stress and mental health problems, which in turn can affect the interaction between the parent and the child. Parental mental health outcomes are known to be affected by the process of disclosure of a diagnosis.

Article Synopsis
  • A mixed methods study evaluated the effects of the Good Life with osteoArthritis Denmark (GLA:D®) program on physical activity levels among people with knee osteoarthritis over 3 and 12 months.
  • It involved 44 participants, with interviews revealing four main themes related to fear of knee joint damage, varying participation in physical activities, and the influence of facilitators and ongoing barriers to exercise.
  • Although the proportion of more active participants did not significantly change from baseline to follow-up, fear of damage decreased markedly, and participants reported high motivation and confidence for exercise after the program.

Introduction: Trimethylamine (TMA), produced by gut microbiota, is the precursor of trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO), a uremic toxin that accumulates in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Elevated TMAO plasma levels are associated with cardiovascular complications and CKD progression.

Objective: To evaluate the association between gut microbiota composition and TMAO plasma levels in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD).

Background: Hip osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent and burdensome condition that leads to impaired quality of life and a substantial economic burden. Encouraging physical activity, particularly walking, is crucial for OA management, but many individuals with hip OA fail to meet recommended activity levels. Prefabricated contoured foot orthoses have shown promise in improving hip muscle efficiency during walking in laboratory settings, but their real-world feasibility and efficacy remain uncertain.

Background: According to person-by-environment models, individual differences in traits may moderate the association between stressors and the development of psychopathology; however, findings in the literature have been inconsistent and little literature has examined adolescent brain structure as a moderator of the effects of stress on adolescent internalizing symptoms. The COVID-19 pandemic presented a unique opportunity to examine the associations between stress, brain structure, and psychopathology. Given links of cortical morphology with adolescent depression and anxiety, the current study investigated whether cortical morphology moderated the relationship between stress from the COVID-19 pandemic and the development of internalizing symptoms in familial high-risk adolescents.
