Article Synopsis
  • Piriformis syndrome is a condition that causes pain in the hip, buttocks, and legs, while axial spondyloarthritis primarily affects the spine and sacroiliac joint.
  • The literature shows a lack of research on the link between these two disorders, prompting a case study of a 30-year-old woman with both conditions.
  • After confirming the diagnosis with specialized tests and tailoring a treatment plan, significant pain relief was achieved, highlighting the importance of recognizing piriformis syndrome in patients with axial spondyloarthritis for better care and management.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates gender differences in the assessment of inflammatory low back pain (IBP) as it relates to diagnosing axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) compared to other causes of chronic low back pain (LBP).
  • Patients under 45 with chronic LBP were analyzed using specific criteria for axSpA to evaluate the effectiveness of various IBP assessment items across genders.
  • Results showed that while IBP assessment items and criteria performed similarly for both men and women, women exhibited slightly better results, indicating that gender might slightly influence the diagnostic effectiveness of the criteria sets used.

Introduction: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is an autoinflammatory disease characterized by polyserositis and arthritis attacks, which are mediated by increased plasma levels of cytokines. Our hypothesis was that the increase in specific cytokines can also lead to portal hypertension, even in the absence of overt hepatic steatosis.

Methods: We designed a comparative cross-sectional study with 41 patients and 30 healthy individuals to show if there is a relationship between portal hypertension and FMF.
