Objective: To investigate and establish a protocol for 18F-sodium fluoride (18F-NaF) PET scan imaging in Amazon parrots for atherosclerosis diagnosis.

Methods: In this feasibility proof-of-concept study, 18F-NaF μPET scan and μCT scan were obtained on Hispaniolan (Amazona ventralis) and orange-winged Amazon parrots (A amazonica). A different μPET scan protocol was used for each species.

Objective: To determine the impact of chronic dental disease on the nasolacrimal duct of chinchillas using contrast CT dacryocystorhinography.

Animals Studied: Two 12-year-old female chinchillas with uni- or bilateral ocular discharge and a history of chronic, moderate (Chinchilla 1, one-year) or severe (Chinchilla 2, three-years) dental disease.

Procedures: Contrast CT dacryocystorhinography was performed to identify abnormalities in the nasolacrimal duct and dentition, and to correlate those changes.

Tumors located at the heart base are rare in dogs and cats and aortic body tumors (chemodectoma/paraganglioma), hemangiosarcoma, ectopic thyroid carcinoma, lymphoma, and other uncommon neoplasia can be found at that location. The objective of this retrospective case series was to describe the CT characteristics of canine and feline heart base tumors. CT studies of 21 dogs and four cats with histologically or cytologically confirmed heart base tumors were reviewed for size, location, shape, margination, contrast enhancement, adjacent neovascularization, invasion, mass effect, cavitary effusions, and metastasis.

Rats are a commonly used animal model for the study of the pathogenesis and novel treatments of glaucoma, which is induced experimentally using invasive, painful procedures. Peribulbar anaesthesia (PBA) is frequently used in people and domestic animals prior to ophthalmic surgeries to provide excellent perioperative analgesia. Our goal was to develop a PBA technique adapted to rat anatomy, improving the welfare of animals used as a model for glaucoma.

Objective: To determine whether ultrasonographic features in dogs with protein-losing nephropathy (PLN) were associated with renal biopsy findings and compare corticomedullary ratios between dogs with PLN versus non-renal disease.

IV iodinated contrast is undocumented in koi (). IV contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) provides detailed imaging of the vascular structures and parenchymal organs. The goals of this study were to (1) document feasibility of IV contrast into the caudal vein, (2) determine distribution of contrast media and conspicuity of organs, (3) evaluate for differences in contrast uptake with two different doses of IV contrast, and (4) evaluate for contraindications of IV iodinated contrast in a small cohort of fish.
