It has been suggested that negative effects of mental fatigue on cognition performance in laboratory studies could translate to impaired sport performance.

What Is Known Already: RAGE has previously been measured by ELISA in low-quality sperm in diabetic men and has been shown to correlate with DNA fragmentation (terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labelling (TUNEL) assay).

Study Design Size Duration: Semen samples were recovered from 60 non-obese, non-diabetic and non-smoking subjects, washed with fresh media, and analysed directly or purified further by differential gradient centrifugation (DGC) or fractionated by direct swim-up before being analysed for sperm motility and molecular health parameters, including cell membrane permeability, cell death, mitochondrial membrane potential, DNA fragmentation, and RAGE protein expression.

Purpose: This investigation sought to determine industry perceptions of postgraduate strength and conditioning (S&C) degrees to understand whether graduates are equipped for the demands of sport performance service roles.

Methods: Survey data were collected from 111 participants employed as performance staff or in a role that recruits and supervises performance staff. The survey consisted of 3 main sections: (1) perceptions of career-development opportunities in S&C, (2) perception of S&C postgraduate programs, and (3) perceptions of employability in S&C.

Montmorency cherry supplementation enhances 15 km cycling time trial performance: Optimal timing 90-min pre-exercise.

Montmorency cherry (MC) can improve endurance performance, but optimal pre-exercise timing of supplementation and influence of training status on efficacy are unknown. We investigated the effect of MC concentrate ingestion between 30- and 150-min pre-exercise in trained and recreational cyclists on 15-km time trial (TT) performance and exercise economy. A simple assay involving the measurement of IL-6 production in human synovial fibroblasts from rheumatoid arthritis patients has been utilised to select candidates from a targeted library of queuine tRNA ribosyltransferase (QTRT) substrates for subsequent screening in murine experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE - a model of multiple sclerosis). The activity assay discriminated between poor and excellent 7-deazaguanine QTRT substrates and allowed the identification of several structures which subsequently outperformed the previous lead in EAE. Two molecules were of significant promise: one rigidified analogue of the lead, and another considerably simpler structure incorporating an oxime motif which differs structurally from the lead to a considerable extent.

Gender-Affirming Voice Training for Trans Women: Effectiveness of Training on Patient-Reported Outcomes and Listener Perceptions of Voice.

Purpose: Although speech-language pathologists have provided gender-affirming voice training for trans women since the 1970s, evidence for this training's effectiveness remains weak. Our study aimed to redress limitations of earlier studies and evaluate voice training effects on outcomes important to trans women.

Method: Seventy-four trans women (19-54 years old) who wanted a more female-sounding voice were recruited through two health facilities and provided with an eight- to 12-session voice training program based on contemporary literature, usual clinical practice, and client-centered care principles.
