Objectives: Recombinant tissue plasminogen activator, alteplase, began to be commonly used to restore the patency of occluded central venous catheters (CVCs) as urokinase production was halted in the late 1990s. However, alteplase often requires an extended dwell time to restore patency to occluded CVCs. In adults, reteplase, a newer thrombolytic agent, has been reported to restore patency to CVCs in 30 minutes.

Dapsone has been shown to be effective in treating adults with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). This retrospective review describes the authors' experience using dapsone in children with refractory, symptomatic ITP. Seven children were treated with dapsone.

Objective: Response to intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) has been shown to predict response to splenectomy in adults with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). However, reports in children have been inconsistent. We sought to determine whether response to IVIG is predictive of response to splenectomy in children.
