Article Synopsis
  • This study examined how radiotherapy (RT) and chemoradiotherapy (CRT) affect the wear and surface roughness of human enamel and dentin after a simulated abrasive challenge.
  • Specimens from healthy patients and head and neck cancer patients who underwent RT or CRT were tested, with no significant differences in enamel wear between the groups, but RT showed lower wear profiles compared to CRT and control groups.
  • In dentin, there were no differences in wear profiles, but both RT and CRT resulted in increased surface roughness compared to the control, highlighting the impact of radiation treatment on dental tissues.

The purpose of this report is to discuss the case of a four-year-old African-American girl who presented with clinical and radiographic evidence of localized stage III grade C periodontitis. She had no history of systemic disease or caries. Treatment consisted of oral hygiene instructions, extraction of unsalvageable teeth, full-mouth debridement with the use of systemic antibiotics and subsequent periodontal maintenance care.

This study aimed to assess the in vitro effects of re-irradiation on enamel and dentin properties, simulating head and neck cancer radiotherapy retreatment. Forty-five human permanent molars were classified into five groups: non-irradiated; irradiated 60 Gy, and re-irradiated with doses of 30, 40, and 50 Gy. Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were employed for analysis.

To assess the impact of intravascular laser irradiation of blood (ILIB) on the primitive carotid artery (PCA) hemodynamic variables, specifically blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR), in mastectomized patients undergoing hormone blocker treatments. This study is a controlled, experimental, and randomized clinical trial. Patients were allocated into two groups: the experimental group (G1)-patients who received ILIB therapy using a 660 nm laser targeted at the PCA, and the control group (G2)-patients who did not receive ILIB therapy.

Article Synopsis
  • * The researchers reviewed multiple studies, focusing only on undergraduate students and excluding post-graduates or programs without outcome evaluations.
  • * Results showed that EBD educational interventions generally improved both perceived and actual knowledge of dental students, but the quality of the studies had a high risk of bias, suggesting a need for more thorough research.

Aims: Auriculotherapy is a therapeutic method of traditional Chinese Medicine in which a stimulus is exerted on the ear and activates energy channels throughout the body, helping to control anxiety, stress, pain, inflammation, illnesses chronic, and possibly can be used in patient with Arnold Chiari Malformation type II who have painful symptoms that are difficult to resolve. Thus, the aim of this article is to present a case in a patient with Chiari Malformation II where auriculotherapy and effect of laser therapy were performed, to relieve symptoms of agitation, anxiety and healing of self-mutilation injuries.

Case Report: Data from medical records were used to collect medical and dental history, complaints and treatments performed.
