The reward responsivity hypothesis of self-control proposes that, irrespective of self-control success, exercising self-control is aversive and engenders negative affect. To countermand this discomfort, reward-seeking behavior may be amplified after bouts of self-control, bringing individuals back to a mildly positive baseline state. Previous studies indicated that effort-an integral component of self-control-can increase reward responsivity.

An emerging view considers it exaggerated favorability (self-enhancement), whereas traditional views regard it as self-accuracy and self-consistency. We tested these theoretical views by contrasting the authentic self with the presented self, a highly desirable representation.

In general (i.e. in heteronormative and cisgendered samples), authenticity appears protective against threats to well-being.

Study 1 ( = 119) revealed that neither -rated personality states nor affect predicted other-rated authenticity. Instead, other-rated liking was the only predictor of other-rated authenticity.

Previous studies of skiing and snowboarding injuries have been conducted, but studies evaluating injury types and patterns over long periods of time are needed to drive effective injury prevention efforts. We hypothesized that injury patterns would differ among snowboarders and skiers and that the number of injuries remained constant over time.

However, little is known about the psychometric properties of this technique. This is integral for understanding the usefulness of SpecParam as a tool to determine differences in measurements of cognitive function, and electroencephalography activity.

Less attention has been paid to positive aspects of events and whether positivity buffers the impact of negative aspects of events. The present study examined positivity and negativity of interpersonal and non-interpersonal episodic life events in predicting anxiety and depressive symptoms in a sample of 373 young adults.

Two taxa of thalattosaurians, the askeptosauroid and one as yet undescribed thalattosauroid, are examined. Both taxa have a rather different microanatomy, tissue type, and growth pattern.

We know from self-report studies that increases in solitude are associated with drops in approach motivation and rises in avoidance motivation, but only when solitude is experienced as non-self-determined (i.e., non-autonomous).

To examine their convergent validity, we re-analyzed data from a published study in which all four scales were administered simultaneously. Multi-group confirmatory factor analyses demonstrated that a one-factor model accurately described the interrelations among the four scales, and supported full metric and partial scalar invariance across U.

The NLRP3 inflammasome is a critical component of innate immunity that activates caspase-1 to induce inflammation in response to a wide spectrum of endogenous and exogenous stimuli. NLRP3 inflammasome activation has been shown by assays for the cleavage of caspase-1 and gasdermin D, the maturation of IL-1β and IL-18, and ASC speck formation in innate immune cells such as macrophages and monocytes. Recently, NEK7 has been revealed as an essential regulator for NLRP3 inflammasome activation by forming high-molecular-weight complexes with NLRP3.

An ACJ injury is classified by the degree and direction of the clavicle displacement. Although the diagnosis can be made clinically, standard radiographic views are important to determine the severity of the ACJ disruption and assess for concurrent injuries.

BSDs emerge when critical neurodevelopment in frontal and striatal regions occurs in sex-specific ways. The current paper examined the volume of frontal and striatal brain regions in both individuals with and at risk for a BSD with exploratory analyses examining sex-specificity.

Here, we show that similar grouping behaviors evolved in an early marine tetrapod lineage, documented by dozens of specimens of the giant ichthyosaur Shonisaurus in the Luning Formation in West Union Canyon, Nevada, USA. A concentration of at least seven skeletons closely preserved on a single bedding plane received the bulk of previous attention.

However, its aberrant activation contributes to the pathogenesis of several inflammatory diseases. Activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome induces the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18 and pyroptotic cell death.

Understanding the process as well as the challenges and successes of matching homecare workers with older care receivers from differing cultural backgrounds may enhance practices that maximize quality-of-care outcomes and perceptions of quality of life for older adults, especially those "aging in place." Guided by a person-centered, consumer directed care model, this paper outlines the need for research that specifically aims to describe the matching process used by care coordinators when assigning homecare workers to older care receivers of different cultural backgrounds and how the needs and preferences of care receivers are balanced with the characteristics, skills, and capacities of the available pool of homecare workers.

In addition, intra-articular pressure monitoring was conducted to confirm needle placement and evaluate peak pressure curves prior to capsular failure.
Methods: We conducted a cadaveric study using thirty fresh-frozen upper extremities with maintained glenohumeral joint.
Musculoskeletal injuries are among the most common chief complaints in the geriatric population. Shoulder pain with associated deformity should be evaluated for possible joint dislocations, fractures, and musculotendinous tears. A comprehensive evaluation beginning with history and physical examination is important.

Methods: A retrospective review of 60 patients presenting with pelvic ring injuries after road (n = 46) and mountain (n = 14) bicycling accidents was performed to compare patient/injury characteristics and hospital course.
Results: LC1 injuries were the most common pelvic ring injury (n = 31, 51.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the patient/injury characteristics and associated hospital course of patients sustaining traumatic pelvic ring injuries after alpine ski and snowboard accidents at a level one trauma center in the Rocky Mountain region.
Methods: Patient/injury characteristics were obtained from patients presenting with pelvic ring injuries after alpine ski (n = 55) and snowboard (n = 9) accidents. Characteristics and outcomes analyzed included mechanism of injury, pelvic ring classification (Young-Burgess and Tile), hospital admission, physical therapy (PT) clearance, ambulation, length of stay, inpatient morphine milligram equivalents (MME), and discharges to rehabilitation facility.
