While screening the rectal site and urine may be appropriate for detection of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales, respiratory samples, throat and wound swabs may increase the sensitivity of screening protocols when aiming to detect colonization with carbapenemase-producing non-fermenting bacteria. The reaction of indigo with two equivalents of the electrophile ethyl bromoacetate with caesium carbonate as a base result in the formation of structurally complex polyheterocyclics, including a fused spiroimidazole and a spiro[1,3]oxazino derivative, together with a biindigoid-type derivative, through a convenient one-pot reaction. Further assessment of the reaction using five equivalents of the electrophile gave rise to other molecules incorporating the 2-(7,13,14-trioxo-6,7,13,14-tetrahydropyrazino[1,2-:4,3-']diindol-6-yl) scaffold. The reaction of ethyl bromoacetate with the less reactive indirubin resulted in the synthesis of three derivatives of a new class of polyheterocyclic system via a cascade process, although yields were low.

Existing maze apparatuses used in rodents often exclusively assess spatial discriminability as a means to evaluate learning impairments. Spatial learning in such paradigms is reportedly spared by moderate prenatal alcohol exposure in rats, suggesting that spatial reinforcement alone is insufficient to delineate executive dysfunction, which consistently manifests in humans prenatally-exposed to alcohol. To address this, we designed a single-session continuous performance task in the T-maze apparatus that requires rats to discriminate within and between simultaneously-presented spatial (left or right) and tactile (sandpaper or smooth) stimuli for food reinforcement across four sequential discrimination stages: simple discrimination, intradimensional reversal 1, extradimensional shift, and intradimensional reversal 2.

We studied simultaneous EMG and midline EEG responses, including over the cerebellum, in 10 standing subjects (35 ± 15 yr; 5 females, 5 males). Recordings were made following repeated taps to the sternum, stimuli known to evoke short-latency EMG responses in leg muscles, consistent with postural reflexes. EEG power had relatively more high-frequency components (>30 Hz) when recorded from electrodes over the cerebellum (Iz and SIz) compared with other midline electrodes.

Natural occurring peroxides are interesting bioprospecting targets due to their molecular structural diversity and the wide range of pharmacological activities. In this systematic review, a total of 123 peroxide compounds were analysed from 99 published papers with the compounds distributed in 31 plants, 18 animals and 41 microorganisms living in land and water ecosystems. The peroxide moiety exists as both cyclic and acyclic entities and can include 1,2-dioxolanes, 1,2-dioxane rings and common secondary metabolites with a peroxo group.

Recent studies have shown that seagrasses could possess potential applications in the treatment of inflammatory disorders. Five seagrass species (, , , , and ) from the Great Barrier Reef (QLD, Australia) were thus collected, and their preliminary antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities were evaluated. From the acetone extracts of five seagrass species subjected to 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging antioxidant assay, the extract of had the highest activity (half minimal concentration of inhibition (IC) = 138 µg/mL), with the aerial parts (IC = 119 µg/mL) possessing significantly higher antioxidant activity than the roots (IC ≥ 500 µg/mL).

Recurrent somatic mutations in the BRG1/BRM-associated factor (BAF) chromatin remodeling complex subunit ARID1A occur frequently in advanced urothelial, endometrial, and ovarian clear cell carcinomas, creating an alternative chromatin state that may be exploited therapeutically.
