The terahertz (THz) metamaterial sensor design is typically complex and requires substantial expertise in physics. To simplify this process, we propose a novel reverse design model based on an improved conditional generative adversarial network that integrates self-attention generative adversarial network and Wasserstein generative adversarial network (WGAN) networks, and is referred to as the self-attention conditional Wasserstein GAN (SACW-GAN) model. By using the target response of the sensor as the input to the generator network, and incorporating labeling information, an attention mechanism, and the Wasserstein distance, we achieve effective reverse design of THz metamaterial sensors.

A terahertz metamaterial microfluidic sensing chip for ultrasensitive detection is proposed to investigate the response of substances to terahertz radiation in liquid environments and enhance the molecular fingerprinting of trace substances. The structure consists of a cover layer, a metal microstructure, a microfluidic channel, a metal reflective layer, and a buffer layer from top to bottom, respectively. The simulation results show that there are three obvious resonance absorption peaks in the range of 1.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the role of gastrodin, a compound from traditional Chinese medicine, in alleviating migraine pain and its relationship with metabolic changes and calcium influx via certain receptor channels.
  • - Experimental results showed that gastrodin treatment increased pain sensitivity thresholds in migraine-inducing mice and reduced their pain responses while highlighting the link between elevated succinate levels and TRPM2 channel activity in trigeminal neurons.
  • - The findings suggest that gastrodin's analgesic effects are achieved by decreasing succinate accumulation and inhibiting the related HIF-1α signaling, thus reducing TRPM2 expression and calcium influx that contribute to migraine pain.

Globally, 10-15% of maternal deaths are statistically attributable to preeclampsia. Compared with late-onset PE, the severity of early-onset PE remains more harmful with higher morbidity and mortality. To establish an early-onset preeclampsia prediction model by clinical characteristics, risk factors and routine laboratory indicators were investigated from pregnant women at 6 to 10 gestational weeks.

Metabolic dysregulations have emerged as a major mediator of cardiovascular disorders and fibrotic diseases. Metabolic reprogramming contributes a lot to cardiac fibroblast activation and cardiac fibrosis post-myocardial infarction (MI), yet the mechanism remains incompletely understood. Our work aimed to determine whether or not glycolytic reprogramming, regulated by phosphofructokinase-2/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatase 3 (PFKFB3), is a therapeutic target for alleviating post-MI cardiac fibrosis.

Circulating tumor-related materials (CTRMs) shed from original or metastatic tumors, carry a lot of tumor information and are considered as important markers for cancer diagnosis and metastasis prognosis. Herein, we report a colorimetric detection strategy for CTRMs based on aptamer-based magnetic isolation and endogenous alkaline phosphatase (AP)-signal amplification. This strategy exhibited high sensitivity and selectivity toward the CTRMs that express AP heterodimers (the target of aptamer, a potential tumor marker).
