Objective: This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of human milk protein fortifier (HMPF) versus bovine milk protein fortifier (BMPF) on feeding tolerance defined as the time to reach full feeds and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in premature very low birth weight (VLBW) infants.

Study Design: A retrospective review using the BabySteps Database included 493 infants born ≤33 weeks of gestational age and ≤1,250 g (g) birth weight. A total of 218 infants fed a human milk diet (HMD) with BMPF were compared with 275 infants fed an HMD with HMPF.

Objectives: The objectives were (1) to identify the causes for hydrops fetalis neonates admitted for neonatal intensive care with the diagnosis of hydrops fetalis and (2) to identify the risk factors associated with death.

Methods: A retrospective review of a large national data set was performed.

Results: There were a total of 253,651 discharges from 162 NICUs in the database; 598 patients were identified with a report of hydrops fetalis.

Exploration of the relative roles of family dynamics and release of constrained, negative emotion in changing pain and depressive symptoms. Eighteen patients presenting mild to moderate depression and diagnoses of psychogenic pain disorder were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatment groups. One group was designed to facilitate the release of constrained and overcontrolled negative affect while the other was designed to provide information about pain and depression.

The relationship among therapeutically induced affective arousal, depressive symptoms, pain and beta-endorphin levels were explored on 6 patients with chronic, active rheumatoid arthritis. An ABA, n of 1 study methodology was utilized, replicated 5 times. This procedure allowed the analysis of individualized changes across time in response to the therapeutic regimen.
