High-throughput genotyping arrays have provided a cost-effective, reliable and interoperable system for genotyping hexaploid wheat and its relatives. Existing, highly cited arrays including our 35K Wheat Breeder's array and the Illumina 90K array were designed based on a limited amount of varietal sequence diversity and with imperfect knowledge of SNP positions. Recent progress in wheat sequencing has given us access to a vast pool of SNP diversity, whilst technological improvements have allowed us to fit significantly more probes onto a 384-well format Axiom array than previously possible.

Record linkage in the MPI is typically performed manually by health care providers, guided by automated matching algorithms. Nutrient addition may change soil microbial community structure, but soil microbes must simultaneously contend with other, interacting factors. We studied the effect of soil type (peat, mineral), water level (low, high), and nutrient addition (unfertilized, fertilized) on wet grassland soil microbial community structure in both vegetated and un-vegetated soils after five years of treatment application in a mesocosm, using Illumina sequencing of the bacterial V4 region of the small ribosomal sub-units. Soil type, water level, and plant presence significantly affected the soil microbial structure, both singly and interactively.

FANCM suppresses crossovers in plants by unwinding recombination intermediates. In wheat, crossovers are skewed toward the chromosome ends, thus limiting generation of novel allelic combinations. The CerealsDB website, created by members of the Functional Genomics Group at the University of Bristol, provides access to a database containing SNP and genotyping data for hexaploid wheat and, to a lesser extent, its progenitors and several of its relatives. The site is principally aimed at plant breeders and research scientists who wish to obtain information regarding SNP markers; for example, obtain primers used for their identification or the sequences upon which they are based. The identification of intestinal dysbiosis in patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders has highlighted the importance of gut-brain communication, and yet the question regarding the identity of the components responsible for this cross-talk remains open. We previously reported that relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis patients treated with dimethyl fumarate have a prominent depletion of the gut microbiota, thereby suggesting that studying the composition of plasma and CSF samples from these patients may help to identify microbially derived metabolites. We used a functional xenogeneic assay consisting of cultured rat neurons exposed to CSF samples collected from multiple sclerosis patients before and after dimethyl fumarate treatment to assess neurotoxicity and then conducted a metabolomic analysis of plasma and CSF samples to identify metabolites with differential abundance.

The hexaploid bread wheat genome comprises over 16 gigabases of sequence across 21 chromosomes. Meiotic crossovers are highly polarized along the chromosomes, with elevation in the gene-dense distal regions and suppression in the retrotransposon-dense centromere-proximal regions. The combination therapy of BRAF/MEK inhibition with or without anti-CTLA-4 treatment causes an immunostimulatory effect that has greatly reduced death from melanoma. In this article, we present the case of a patient with prior multiple sclerosis (MS) and who later developed metastatic malignant melanoma, had a marked increase of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings after treatment with the combination of trametinib (MEK) and dabrafenib (BRAF), diagnostic question of metastatic disease versus new MS lesions without brain biopsy is discussed.
