Background: Referrals of men to breast assessment clinics are increasing. While most of the men will have benign disease, some of them will have breast cancer. Whichever pathology they have, men should be offered a service tailored to their needs, rather than being 'shoehorned' into a service designed to care for women.

In the past 12 months, we have diagnosed 6 primary breast cancers--1 metastasis and 5 benign lesions--in this manner. We describe 4 cases illustrating a range of breast pathologies, benign and malignant, which have been detected by computed tomography scans.
