Methods: The FEM includes basic growth and growth modulation created by the muscle force imbalance.
Over the last century the neurocentral junction (NCJ) has been identified as a potential cause of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Disparate growth at this site has been thought to lead to pedicle asymmetry, which then causes vertebral rotation and ultimately, the development of scoliotic curves. The objectives of this study are (1) to incorporate pedicle growth and growth modulation into an existing finite element model of the thoracic and lumbar spine already integrating vertebral body growth and growth modulation; (2) to use the model to investigate whether pedicle asymmetry, either alone or combined with other deformations, could be involved in scoliosis pathomechanisms.

Three-dimensional imaging is an emerging technique in radiology. It might be used to help view the spine and assist in improving evaluation of scoliosis. These images are currently computer generated and although very effective are actually optical iflusions.

Methods And Materials: Fifty women with lymphedema (mean age of 59 years +/- 13 years) were randomly assigned to 4 weeks of combined MLD/CB or CB alone. The primary study endpoint was the reduction in arm lymphedema volume, which was determined by water displacement volumetry and measurement of circumference.
Although numerous growth factors can promote the regeneration of bone upon parenteral administration, all exhibit undesirable side-effects that prevent their clinical utility. These side-effects arise due to the growth factors' inherent lack of bone affinity. The goal of this study was to develop a means to enhance the bone mineral affinity of osteogenic growth factors so as to minimize their extra-skeletal distribution.

The ability of subjects with multidirectional shoulder instability to use proprioception to complete a series of upper limb repositioning tasks was investigated. Twelve subjects with multidirectional instability and 12 control subjects were blindfolded and instructed to use proprioception to reproduce a self-selected target position as accurately as possible. Subjects completed 10 repetitions for each limb using three distinct upper limb movements: overhead reaching, scapular plane pointing, and humeral external rotation with abduction.
