The 2014-2016 Ebola outbreak in Guinea revealed systematic weaknesses in the existing disease surveillance system, which contributed to delayed detection, underreporting of cases, widespread transmission in Guinea and cross-border transmission to neighboring Sierra Leone and Liberia, leading to the largest Ebola epidemic ever recorded. Efforts to understand the epidemic's scale and distribution were hindered by problems with data completeness, accuracy, and reliability. In 2017, recognizing the importance and usefulness of surveillance data in making evidence-based decisions for the control of epidemic-prone diseases, the Guinean Ministry of Health (MoH) included surveillance strengthening as a priority activity in their post-Ebola transition plan and requested the support of partners to attain its objectives.

Prostatic lithiases are characterized by the development of stones in the prostatic tissue (acini, channels). They rarely occur in children but they are frequent in men. We report the case of a 24-year old patient with a few month-history of micturation disorders including dysuria and pollakiuria followed by perineal urinary leakage during minction.

Article Synopsis
  • Tuberculosis is prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa, but cutaneous tuberculosis is rare and often misdiagnosed due to its varied symptoms and limited diagnostic tools.
  • A study in Bamako, Mali, analyzed 4269 patient records from 1991 to 2008, identifying 61 cases of cutaneous tuberculosis, predominantly among men, with varying clinical forms including scrofuloderma and ulcerative types.
  • The findings indicate a need for better diagnostic access and equipment to address the underdiagnosis of cutaneous tuberculosis in Mali.

Introduction: Skin diseases in the aging population vary and are a key concern for clinicians in terms of diagnosis, management and follow-up. This study aims to describe the epidemiological and clinical aspects of skin diseases among geriatric patients hospitalized in the Department of Dermatology at the National Center In Support Of Disease, Bamako.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional case study of patients with geriatric dermatoses hospitalized in the Department of Dermatology at the National Center In Support Of Disease from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2014.

A 58-year-old woman with a 2-month history of atypical chest pain was referred to the chest pain clinic by the general practitioner. Exercise stress test was positive and subsequent coronary angiogram revealed significant triple vessel disease with left ventricular impairment requiring a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). The patient had a chest X-ray as part of the preoperative work up.

Sternal dehiscence is a recognised complication after median sternotomy, occurring in 0.5-5% of cases with or without infection. A 72-year-old man presenting with collapse and ventricular tachycardia was investigated for a possible acute cardiac event 2 years after coronary artery bypass grafting for ischemic heart disease.

Autistics demonstrate superior performances on several visuo-spatial tasks where local or detailed information processing is advantageous. Altered spatial filtering properties at an early level of visuo-spatial analysis may be a plausible perceptual origin for such detailed perception in Autism Spectrum Disorder. In this study, contrast sensitivity for both luminance and texture-defined vertically-oriented sine-wave gratings were measured across a range of spatial frequencies (0.

The global level of hierarchical stimuli (Navon's stimuli) is typically processed quicker and better than the local level; further differential hemispheric dominance is described for local (left hemisphere, LH) and global (right hemisphere, RH) processing. However, neuroimaging and behavioral data indicate that stimulus category (letter or object) could modulate the hemispheric asymmetry for the local level processing. Besides, when the targets are unpredictably displayed at the global or local level, the participant has to switch between levels, and the magnitude of the switch cost increases with the number of repeated-level trials preceding the switch.

Objective: This work aimed to study the quality of diagnosis and management of high blood pressure (HBP) by the practitioners of the Gabriel TOURÉ and point G teaching hospitals of Bamako.

Materials And Methods: It was a descriptive and analytical, cross-sectional study during the study period from 1st March 2009 to 28 February 2010. It included all physicians and paramedics of the teaching hospital of the Point G and Gabriel TOURÉ in Bamako.

Although significant progress has been made over the last decades, the chemical senses remain less well explored than vision or audition. One method to assess participants' ability to identify or localize odors consists in the application of dichotomous stimuli (e.g.

Objective: This work aimed to describe the epidemiological, clinical, biological and ultrasound aspects of the subclinical renal failure in hypertensive patients in the department of cardiology of the Gabriel TOURÉ University Hospital of Bamako.

Patients And Methods: The study was cross-sectional and prospective from 1 January 2007 to 31 December 2007 in the cardiology department of the Gabriel Touré University Hospital. These were all patients who achieved at least the basic test for renal impairment such as serum creatinine, 24h proteinuria, renal ultrasound.

Hemispheric dominance has been behaviourally documented for the local (left hemisphere, LH) or global (right hemisphere, RH) processing of hierarchical letters. However, Fink et al. (1997) indicated that stimulus category modulates this hemispheric asymmetry.

Although autism presents a unique perceptual phenotype defined in part by atypical (often enhanced) analysis of spatial information, few biologically plausible hypotheses have been advanced to explain its neural underpinnings. One plausible explanation is functional but altered lateral connectivity mediating early or local mechanisms selectively responsive to different stimulus attributes, including spatial frequency and contrast. The goal of the present study was first to assess far visual acuity in autism using Landolt-C optotypes defined by different local stimulus attributes.

Unlabelled: OBJECTIVES AND CONTEXT: This paper describes the preliminary outcomes of a collaborative capacity-building initiative performed in Mali to strengthen the immunization program.

Methods: We conducted baseline assessments, training and post-training assessments in four programmatic areas: vaccine management, immunization safety, surveillance, and vaccine coverage, using adapted World Health Organization (WHO) tools. Impact assessment was done by evaluation of trainee performance, programmatic impact and sustainability.

Unlabelled: Although the incidence of wound complications after median sternotomy is less than 1%, it remains a serious complication in patients undergoing cardiac procedures. We suggest that the combination of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and aggressive surgical approach improves clinical outcomes in these patients. Between August 1997 and May 2002, 55 patients with postoperative sternal wound infection and/or mediastinitis were qualified for hyperbaric oxygen treatment in connection to surgical management.

Background: Before the introduction of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures were performed on a beating heart. In 1967, Kolessov first reported "off-pump" revascularization of the left anterior descending artery (LAD). This technique was later abandoned when the use of cardioplegia and the heart-lung machine allowed a motionless and bloodless operative field.

After an initial learning experience in the early 70's, radial artery is now used as the second arterial graft of choice (after both ITAs). The aim of the study was to compare patency rates of venous and arterial grafts--especially radial artery--in mid-term follow up period. 19 patients with stable angina and 11 with unstable angina underwent coronary artery bypass grafting with CPB.

During the coronary artery bypass off pump procedure thermal angiography was evaluated for the intraoperative assessment of the patency and the flow in the left internal mammary to the left anterior descendens. Our observation confirms that thermal angiography may be used as an intraoperative method which improves graft quality control during coronary bypass procedures.

Coronary bypass graft procedures still remain a surgical challenge in patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction. The study was designed to compare off pump myocardial revascularization with conventional bypass procedures in patients with ejection fraction below 35%. Our results suggest that in selected patients off pump bypass procedure, may be used as a suitable and safe alternative to conventionalon pump coronary surgery, permitting complete revascularization with comparable short-term results.
