Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluated the effectiveness of positron emission tomography feature tracking (PETFT) for measuring endocardial wall strain and compared it with cardiac magnetic resonance-derived feature tracking (CMRFT) in patients with coronary artery disease.
  • - Involving 83 patients, the results showed that PETFT and CMRFT had significant correlations for both resting and stress conditions, indicating reliability in measuring global longitudinal and circumferential strain.
  • - The research concluded that PETFT is a feasible alternative to CMRFT, suggesting its potential use in clinical practice for assessing heart wall strain.

We aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LVGLS) and left atrial strain (LAS) obtained from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) feature tracking in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). We retrospectively enrolled consecutive patients with HFpEF admitted to our hospital who underwent cardiac MRI. LVGLS and LAS were obtained from cine MRI by feature tracking.

Unlabelled: A 40-year-old female with a history of steroid therapy for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis was brought to our hospital because of chest pain. A diagnosis of non-ST elevation myocardial infarction was made, and emergency coronary angiography revealed stenotic lesions with severe calcification in the left anterior descending artery and the right coronary artery. Percutaneous coronary intervention with rotational atherectomy followed by a drug-coated balloon was performed to the lesion in the left anterior descending artery.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare phase analysis from positron emission tomography (PA) with magnetic resonance feature tracking (FT) for assessing left ventricular mechanical dyssynchrony in patients with ischemic heart disease.
  • Significant correlations were found between measures of dyssynchrony like histogram bandwidth and phase standard deviation from both techniques, particularly with global longitudinal strain and short axis circumferential strain.
  • The results highlighted a good overall agreement between the dyssynchrony indices derived from PET phase analysis and MR strain, indicating that both methods can effectively assess ventricular synchrony.

Unlabelled: COVID-19-associated myocarditis can be a lethal complication in previous variants, but it is not well understood in the Omicron variant. We present an unvaccinated case of COVID-19-associated fulminant myocarditis due to the Omicron BA.2 sub-lineage requiring mechanical circulatory support (MCS).

Myocardial flow reserve (MFR) derived from N-ammonia positron emission tomography (PET) is used to predict adverse cardiac events in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Right ventricular global longitudinal strain (RVGLS) measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to evaluate RV function and predict cardiac events. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of MFR and RVGLS measured by hybrid N-ammonia PET/MRI in patients with CAD.

The total synthesis of the unsaturated disaccharide, lepidimoide 4-deoxy-beta-L-threo-hex-4-enopyranuronosyl-(1-->2)-L-rhamnopyranose sodium salt, has been carried out from D-glucose and L-rhamnose (Tetrahedron Lett. 1993, 34, 2653), but the process is very long and complicated. A method for more easily producing this compound and in large quantities is necessary for further research.
