Recovery-Oriented Outcomes Associated with Long-Acting Injectable Antipsychotics in an Urban Safety-Net Population.

This study examined whether transitioning patients from oral antipsychotics (POs) to long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAIs) helps patients achieve recovery-oriented goals. Data was extracted from San Francisco County's electronic medical record system for this retrospective pre-post observational study. Patients reflect a safety-net population treated in community-based mental health settings during 2015.

Objective: Late HIV diagnosis occurs in up to 45% of new HIV cases in the developed world and is linked to worse health outcomes, including more hospitalizations, higher health care resource utilization and less robust responses to highly active antiretroviral therapy.

Results: A 70-year-old woman with an obscure constellation of medical and psychiatric complaints ultimately proved to have end-stage acquired immunodeficiency syndrome discovered much too late. Curiously, she had no obvious risk factors for HIV infection.

Improvements in depression severity in hospitalized patients with and without borderline personality features.

Introduction: Patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) often struggle with treatment-resistant depression. To date, few studies have specifically assessed the rate of improvement of depressive symptoms during an acute inpatient hospitalization in patients who screen positive for BPD compared with those who do not.

Methods: A sample of 245 psychiatric inpatients was divided into 2 groups on the basis of whether or not they tested positive on the McLean Screening Instrument for Borderline Personality Disorder (MSI-BPD).
