Airway Obstruction with Blunt Neck Trauma from an Accidental High Tackle in Rugby.

Blunt neck trauma is an uncommon condition in sports yet life-threatening if left untreated; hence, early diagnosis and management is necessary once suspected. We report a collegiate rugby player tackled around the neck during intersquad scrimmage. He broke his cricoid and thyroid cartilage, resulting in cervical subcutaneous emphysema and pneumomediastinum and eventually, airway obstruction.

Comparison of the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) and the Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) for predicting admission and in-hospital mortality in elderly patients in the pre-hospital setting and in the emergency department.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of the pre-hospital National Early Warning Score (pNEWS) and the pre-hospital Modified Early Warning Score (pMEWS) for predicting admission and in-hospital mortality in elderly patients presenting to the emergency department (ED). We also compare the value of the pNEWS with that of the ED NEWS (eNEWS) and ED MEWS (eMEWS) for predicting admission and in-hospital mortality. This retrospective, single-centre observational study was carried out in the ED of Jikei University Kashiwa Hospital, in Chiba, Japan, from 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2018.

Regulation of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor receptor-mediated granulocytic differentiation by C-mannosylation.

Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) receptor (G-CSFR) is a type I cytokine receptor which is involved in hematopoietic cell maturation. G-CSFR has three putative C-mannosylation sites at W253, W318, and W446; however, it is not elucidated whether G-CSFR is C-mannosylated or not. In this study, we first demonstrated that G-CSFR was C-mannosylated at only W318.

Topological analysis of DPY19L3, a human C-mannosyltransferase.

C-mannosylation is a rare type of protein glycosylation, the functions and mechanisms of which remain unclear. Recently, we identified DPY19L3 as a C-mannosyltransferase of R-spondin1 in human cells. DPY19L3 is predicted to be a multipass transmembrane protein that localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER); however, its structure is undetermined.

[A long-term survival case of liver epithelioid hemangioendothelioma with multiple lung metastases that regressed by long-term administration of interleukin-2].

A patient was a 46-year-old man. Multiple lung tumors had been pointed out on a medical examination at age 24. He came to our hospital for further examination.

[Emphysematous pyelonephritis and cystitis concurrence; A case report].

We report a case of emphysematous pyelonephritis coexisting with emphysematous cystitis. A 57-year-old woman seen for abdominal pain, diarrhea, and high fever had been referred after computed tomography (CT) elsewhere had shown an air density mass in the left kidney and pelvis. Abdominal CT on admission showed emphysematous change in the left renal parenchyma and intramural bladder.
