Use of self-help services and consumer satisfaction with professional mental health services.

This study tested the hypothesis that users of mental health self-help services would be more satisfied with professional mental health services than clients who did not use self-help services. A survey was administered to 311 clients of professional mental health services, 151 (49 percent) of whom were users of self-help services. A multiple regression model showed that the use of self-help services was associated with greater satisfaction with professional mental health services.

We used quantitative autoradiography to determine whether the development of glutamate receptors correlates with the plastic period for monocular deprivation in rat visual cortex. To study glutamate receptors, we incubated sections of rat visual cortex with tritiated (+)-5-methyl-10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,d]-cyclohepten-5,10imin e maleate (MK-801), tritiated kainate, and tritiated amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-isoxazole-4-propionic acid (AMPA). [3H]MK-801 is a noncompetitive ligand for the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor.

Observations on the algogenic actions of adenosine compounds on the human blister base preparation.

The action of the adenyl compounds adenosine triphosphate (ATP), adenosine diphosphate (ADP), adenosine monophosphate (AMP) and adenosine was studied on the human blister base preparation. All 4 adenyl compounds produced pain which was slow in onset and not maintained. The threshold concentration for pain was of the order of 1-3 micron.
