Study reproducibility is essential to corroborate, build on, and learn from the results of scientific research but is notoriously challenging in bioinformatics, which often involves large data sets and complex analytic workflows involving many different tools. Additionally, many biologists are not trained in how to effectively record their bioinformatics analysis steps to ensure reproducibility, so critical information is often missing. Software tools used in bioinformatics can automate provenance tracking of the results they generate, removing most barriers to bioinformatics reproducibility.

A sellar spine is a midline bony spur arising from the ventral aspect of the dorsum sellae. Representing a remnant of the anterior notochord, it is often an incidental finding and thought to be of no clinical significance. However, it has recently been suggested that a potential association may exist between sellar spine and pediatric pituitary endocrinopathies, possibly caused by deformation of the developing pituitary gland by the sellar spine.

Unlabelled: Osteoporosis is a major concern in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. In this novel study of teriparatide treatment in 6 patients with severe osteoporosis, bone health (fractures, vertebral morphometry, and DXA) remained stable, with no adverse events. These findings will help inform future osteoporosis research in this challenging population.

We report a case of pediatric diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) with significant hypertriglyceridemia. The patient was found to have the e3/ e4 isoform of ApoE, increasing risk of hypertriglyceridemia in DKA. We suggest further genetic investigation for patients presenting with severe hypertriglyceridemia and DKA.

The purpose of this article is to report on the outcomes of an interprofessional education (IPE) consensus-building exercise amongst student leaders enrolled in health science-related degree programs. Background: The measurement of adrenal and ovarian androgens in women with PCOS has been difficult based on poor specificity and sensitivity of assays in the female range.

Methods: Women with PCOS (NIH criteria; n = 52) and control subjects with 25-35 day menstrual cycles, no evidence of hyperandrogenism and matched for BMI (n = 42) underwent morning blood sampling. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was used to simultaneously measure 13 steroids from a single blood sample to measure adrenal and ovarian steroids.

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are at risk for metabolic syndrome, which may be exacerbated by smoking. Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy have been used to investigate hydrogen bonding of methanol in different solvents with an aim to explore potential experimental evidence for improper hydrogen bonding involving the methyl group of methanol as suggested by various computational studies. Pure methanol and solutions of methanol in water, acetonitrile, carbon tetrachloride, deuterium oxide, and deuterated acetonitrile have been studied over a range of concentrations. Wavenumber shifts of the CH stretching vibrations were examined to determine if the CH from methanol participates in hydrogen bonding.

Previous studies have been done in this laboratory focusing on the optical properties of several liquid aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons in the infrared. The current study reports the infrared and absorption Raman spectra of liquid cyclohexane. Infrared spectra were recorded at 25 degrees C over a wavenumber range of 7400-490 cm(-1).

In this paper, the results of a study of the interaction of methane, fluoroform, chloroform, and bromoform with benzene and hexafluorobenzene are presented. The benzene complexes were studied at the MP2/6-31G(d) and MP2/6-311++G(2d,p) levels, and the hexafluorobenzene complexes were only studied at the MP2/6-31G(d) level. The optimized geometries, stabilization energies, potential energy surfaces, harmonic frequencies, and vibrational intensities are reported.

The vibrational properties of benzene have long been a topic of interest. A recent comparison presented in the literature of the liquid and gas intensities at 25 degrees C have revealed some intriguing results regarding how the interaction between the hydrogens and the neighbouring pi-clouds in the liquid affect the vibrational intensities. To gain insight into the effect of temperature on the optical properties of liquid benzene and these interactions, the optical constants of liquid benzene have been determined through transmission measurements between 7,400 and 800 cm(-1).
