The spin-orbit-assisted Mott insulator α-RuCl is proximate to the coveted quantum spin liquid (QSL) predicted by the Kitaev model. In the search for the pure Kitaev QSL, reducing the dimensionality of this frustrated magnet by exfoliation has been proposed as a way to enhance magnetic fluctuations and Kitaev interactions. Here, we perform angle-dependent tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) measurements on ultrathin α-RuCl crystals with various layer numbers to probe their magnetic, electronic, and crystal structures.

For many years, CoNb_{2}O_{6} has served as an exemplar of the one-dimensional Ising model. However, recent experimental and theoretical analyses challenge its applicability to this material. Prior to that, a tailored spin model for 3d^{7} systems such as Co^{2+}, known as the JKΓ model, has emerged, featuring Heisenberg (J), Kitaev (K), and Gamma (Γ) interactions.

Article Synopsis
  • Duodenal mucosal resurfacing (DMR) is an innovative, minimally invasive procedure to manage metabolic syndrome, but traditional thermal ablation can lead to complications like deep mucosal injury.
  • Researchers have developed a non-thermal alternative using photodynamic therapy (PDT) with a specially designed metal stent to reduce the risks associated with thermal procedures while still effectively treating metabolic syndrome.
  • An animal study demonstrated that this new PDT approach, involving controlled release of reactive oxygen species, was safe and effective, showing no significant adverse effects while also decreasing the secretion of gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP), important in metabolic syndrome management.

Background: A drug-eluting stent (DES) is a highly beneficial medical device used to widen or unblock narrowed blood vessels. However, the drugs released by the implantation of DES may hinder the re-endothelialization process, increasing the risk of late thrombosis. We have developed a tacrolimus-eluting stent (TES) that as acts as a potent antiproliferative and immunosuppressive agent, enhancing endothelial regeneration.

Recent experiments on kagome metals AV_{3}Sb_{5} (A=Cs,Rb,K) indicated spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking in the charge density wave state in the absence of static magnetization. The loop current order (LCO) is proposed as its cause, but a microscopic model explaining the emergence of LCO through electronic correlations has not been firmly established. We show that the coupling between van Hove singularities with distinct mirror symmetries is a key ingredient to generate LCO ground state.

A crush injury results directly from a crushing force, while crush syndrome, or traumatic rhabdomyolysis, manifests as systemic consequences stemming from the breakdown of muscle cells. Hand crush injuries present intricate challenges involving damage to multiple structures, tissue loss, and potential digit amputation, often caused by high-energy trauma. Each case demands a unique management plan, with the critical decision between limb salvage and amputation.

Central cord syndrome (CCS) predominantly manifests in elderly individuals with pre-existing cervical spondylosis resulting from hyperextension mechanisms. However, it is not exclusive to the older population and can occur in younger individuals following traumatic cervical spine injuries or, less frequently, due to nontraumatic causes. The impact of this syndrome is more pronounced in the upper extremities, where motor function experiences greater impairment compared to sensory function.

The aging population is witnessing a steady increase in the incidence of displaced proximal humerus fractures, particularly among elderly patients. Such fractures pose a significant challenge to orthopedic surgeons, given the complex interplay of factors involved, including fracture displacement, comminution, compromised bone quality, and the presence of concurrent medical comorbidities. While open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) remains a viable treatment option for these fractures, it is a technically demanding procedure associated with a high incidence of complications.

Duodenal ablation improves glycaemic control and weight loss, so it has been applied using hydrothermal catheters in obese and type 2 diabetes patients, indicating similar mechanisms and therapeutic effects as bariatric surgeries. Endoscopic photodynamic therapy is an innovative procedure that easily accessible to endocrine or gastrointestinal organs, so it is critical for the sprayed photosensitizer (PS) to long-term interact with target tissues for enhancing its effects. Surfactant-like PS was more stable in a wide range of pH and 2.
