The catalytic activity of AuCu and AuCu samples for the electro-oxidation of CHOH and HCOOH, together with their structure and micro-hardness were investigated using various techniques. The addition of Cu can improve the micro-hardness of samples, which is ascribed to the solid solution strengthening effect. The Schmid factor and low angle grain boundary fraction confirm the difference of plastic deformation ability for samples, being consistent with hardness results.

A novel one-step method to prepare the nanocomposites of reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/nanoporous gold (NPG) is realized by chemically dealloying an AlAu precursor. The RGO nanosheets anchored on the surface of NPG have a cicada wing like shape and act as both conductive agent and buffer layer to improve the catalytic ability of NPG for methanol electro-oxidation reaction (MOR). This improvement can also be ascribed to the microstructure change of NPG in dealloying with RGO.

The AA6061-T6 aluminum alloy samples including annealed FeSi₉B particles were prepared by friction stir processing (FSP) and investigated by various techniques. The FeSi₉B-reinforced particles are uniformly dispersed in the aluminum alloy matrix. The XRD results indicated that the lattice parameter of α-Al increases and the preferred orientation factors of (200) plane of α-Al reduces after friction stir processing.
