In the current study, a direct S-scheme titanium dioxide/graphitic carbon nitride (TiO/g-CN) heterojunction structure was fabricated via simultaneous calcination of TiO precursors and g-CN. leaf extract was utilized as a reductant for TiO production through a green synthetic method, and g-CN was prepared by thermal decomposition of melamine. The pristine and nanocomposite photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, FTIR, BET, TGA, HRTEM, UV-vis DRS, and PL to elucidate their physicochemical properties.

Biochar (BC)-photocatalyst nanocomposites have emerged as appealing water and wastewater treatment technology. Such nanocomposite materials benefit from the synergistic effect of adsorption and photocatalysis to attain improved removal of pollutants from water and wastewater. Under this review, three BC-based nanocomposite photocatalysts such as BC-TiO, BC-ZnO, and BC-spinel ferrites were considered.

In this review, the state-of-the-art of screen, inkjet, and three-dimensional (3D) printing electrode technologies of diverse types, manufacturing processes, and applications are critically reviewed for the first time. Emerging printing electrode-based technologies for advanced fabrication of printed electrode materials have given rise to the development of printed electrode devices and systems, thereby opening new avenues for several electrochemical applications. Additionally, their properties can be fine-tuned for specific electrochemical applications by embedding and/or immobilizing nano-structured materials.

Iron (Fe), zirconium (Zr) and titanium (Ti) oxides nanoparticles were each embedded onto a weak acid chelating resin for support using the precipitation method to generate three hybrid adsorbents of hydrated Fe oxide (HFO-P), hydrated Zr oxide (HZO-P) and hydrated Ti oxide (HTO-P). This paper reports on the characterization, performance and potential of these generated nanoadsorbents in the removal of toxic metal ions from acid mine drainage (AMD). The optimum contact time, adsorbent dose and pH for aluminium (Al) (III) adsorption were established using the batch equilibrium technique.

Background: Acid mine drainage (AMD) is a worldwide industrial pollution of grave concern. AMD pollutes both water sources and the environment at large with dissolved toxic metals which are detrimental to human health. This paper reports on the preparation of polymeric ion exchange resins decorated with hydrated iron oxides and their application for the ecological removal of toxic metals ions from AMD.

This review focuses on the biomedical applications and toxicity of spinel ferrite nanoparticles (SFNPs) with more emphasis on the recently published work. A critical review is provided on recent advances of SFNPs applications in biomedical areas. The novelty of SFNPs in addressing the bottleneck problems encountered in the areas of health; in particular, for diagnosis and treatment of tumour cells are well reviewed.

In order to determine human exposure to the indoor toxicant, selection of dust fraction and understanding dust particle size distribution in settled indoor dust are very important. This study examined the influence of dust particle size on the concentration of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) congeners, assessed the distribution of dust particle size and characterized the main indoor emission sources of PBDEs. Accordingly, the concentrations of PBDE congeners determined in different indoor dust fractions were found to be relatively higher in the order of dust particle size: 45-106 μm>(<45 μm)>106-150 μm.

This study reports on the levels of all major polybromobiphenyls (PBBs) and polybromodiphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in 31 home dust samples collected in Pretoria, South Africa. Low concentrations of PBB and PBDE congeners were detected in 21 and 7 samples, respectively. The Σ10PBDEs concentration ranged from <0.

Contaminants in settled indoor dust are potentially health hazardous to human. Thus, identification and quantification of toxic chemicals in settled indoor dust is of great concern. In this study, the levels of major anions ([Formula: see text]), trace metals (Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, As and Pb) and polybromodiphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in settled office and home dust were determined and correlations between the contaminants investigated.

The study focused on analysis of polybromobiphenyls (PBBs) and polybromodiphenyl ethers (PBDEs) congeners in office dust obtained in Pretoria, South Africa. Of the 32 congeners considered for identification, (BB-1, 2, 4, 10, 15, 26, 29, 30, 31, 38, 49, 80, 103, 153, 155, 209 and BDE-3, 15, 17, 28, 47, 66, 77, 85, 99, 100, 126, 138, 153, 154, 183, 209) only BB-2, 4, 30, 153, 209 and BDE-47, 66, 85, 99, 153 and 209 congeners were detected. The sum of PBBs concentration detected in office dust ranged from View Article and Find Full Text PDF

This study determined concentration levels of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in sediment samples collected from Jukskei River in South Africa. Final extracts, after concentration and dilution to 200 μL were analyzed by injecting 1 μL in the GC-ECD and GC-MS. Results obtained showed good recoveries (73%-114%, with RSD < 17%).
