Disulfidptosis is a newly discovered type of regulated cell death triggered by disulfide bond accumulation and NADPH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate) depletion due to glucose deprivation. However, the regulatory mechanisms involving additional cellular circuits remain unclear. Excessive disulfide bond accumulation can impair endoplasmic reticulum (ER) homeostasis and activate the ER stress response.

Due to the inadequate photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE), most photothermal agents (PTAs) have to be used under high-power near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, which significantly exceeds medical safety standards, for achieving effective photothermal therapy (PTT) in antitumor treatment. This significantly hinders practical PTT application. Herein, three acceptor-donor-acceptor(A-D-A)-type molecules are synthesized based on cyclopentadithiophene unit to develop effective PTAs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the overlooked connection between asthma and non-alcoholic hepatic steatosis using the fatty liver index (FLI) from NHANES data.
  • The analysis revealed a nonlinear relationship between FLI values and asthma risk, with higher FLI indicating an increased likelihood of asthma, particularly at optimal thresholds of 68 for males and 63 for females.
  • The findings suggest that lower FLI levels can help minimize asthma risk, highlighting the importance of maintaining healthy liver function.

The large void space of organic electrodes endows themselves with the capability to store different counter ions without size concern. In this work, a small-molecule organic bipolar electrode called diquinoxalino[2,3-a:2',3'-c]phenazine-2,6,10-tris(phenoxazine) (DQPZ-3PXZ) is designed. Based on its robust solid structure by the π conjugation of diquinoxalino[2,3-a:2',3'-c]phenazine (DQPZ) and phenoxazine (PXZ), DQPZ-3PXZ can indiscriminately and stably host 5 counter ions with different charge and size (Li, Na, K, PF and FSI).

BAP1, BRCA1-Associated Protein 1, serves as a novel tumor suppressor through the deubiquitination of monoubiquitination of H2A and subsequent gene transcriptional regulation. Regulated cell death like apoptosis or ferroptosis is considered an essential mechanism mediating tumor suppression. Previous reports, including ours, have demonstrated that BAP1 could promote apoptosis and ferroptosis to inhibit tumor development.

Introduction: There are significant differences in the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) critical values reported in different studies, most of which does not make recommendations for any specific clear detection systems. The International Council for Standardization in Hematology (ICSH) recommends that APTT critical values be established based on the reagent type, coagulation factor sensitivity and heparin response. The objective of this study was to establish APTT critical values by using different reagents and based on single coagulation factor deficiencies.

LIMA1 is a LIM domain and Actin binding 1 protein that acts as a skeleton protein to promote cholesterol absorption, which makes it an ideal target for interfering with lipid metabolism. However, the detailed regulation of LIMA1 remains unclear. Here, we identified that ring finger protein 40 (RNF40), an E3 ubiquitin ligase previously known as an epigenetic modifier to increase H2B ubiquitination, mediated the ubiquitination of LIMA1 and thereby promoted its degradation in a proteasome-dependent manner.

Objectives: Prior studies reporting the effects of loneliness on mild impairment cognitive (MCI) have generated inconsistent results. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the longitudinal association between loneliness and risk of MCI among community-dwelling middle-aged and older adults.

Method: Five electronic databases were searched from inception to 9 May 2023.

Since the discovery of ferromagnetic nanoparticles FeO that exhibit enzyme-like activity in 2007, the research on nanoenzymes has made significant progress. With the in-depth study of various nanoenzymes and the rapid development of related nanotechnology, nanoenzymes have emerged as a promising alternative to natural enzymes. Within nanozymes, there is a category of metal-based single-atom nanozymes that has been rapidly developed due to low cast, convenient preparation, long storage, less immunogenicity, and especially higher efficiency.

Although acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A)-type molecules offer advantages in constructing NIR absorbing photothermal agents (PTAs) due to their strong intramolecular charge transfer and molecular planarity, their applications in photothermal therapy (PTT) of tumors remain insufficiently explored. In particular, the influence of ESP distribution on the optical properties of A-D-A photosensitizers has not been investigated. Herein, we analyze and compare the difference in ESP distribution between A-D-A-type small molecules and polymers to construct NIR absorbing PTAs with a high extinction coefficient () and high photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE).

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The pathogenesis of NAFLD involves multiple biological changes, including insulin resistance, oxidative stress, inflammation, as well as genetic and environmental factors. Liraglutide has been used to control blood sugar.

  • - The study focuses on enhancing wheat quality by modifying storage protein genes, particularly through the introduction or deletion of specific high molecular weight subunits (1Dx5 and 1Dy10) in digenic and trigenic wheat lines.
  • - Results showed that gene pyramiding improved various quality metrics, such as higher sedimentation values and better mixograph parameters, especially in trigenic lines, indicating enhanced dough elasticity and overall wheat quality.
  • - The modified wheat lines exhibited an improved protein composition, with higher Glu/Gli ratios compared to wild type samples, pointing towards significant advancements in both food safety and quality traits.

Migraines are a common medical condition. From a basic science point of view, the central mechanism for migraine and headache is largely unknown. In the present study, we demonstrate that cortical excitatory transmission is significantly enhanced in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC)-a brain region which is critical for pain perception.

The complex structure of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which blocks nearly all large biomolecules, hinders drug delivery to the brain and drug assessment, thus decelerating drug development. Conventional in vitro models of BBB cannot mimic some crucial features of BBB in vivo including a shear stress environment and the interaction between different types of cells. There is a great demand for a new in vitro platform of BBB that can be used for drug delivery studies.

Ferroptosis has emerged as a crucial regulated cell death involved in a variety of physiological processes or pathological diseases, such as tumor suppression. Though initially being found from anticancer drug screening and considered not essential as apoptosis for growth and development, numerous studies have demonstrated that ferroptosis is tightly regulated by key genetic pathways and/or genes, including several tumor suppressors and oncogenes. In this review, we introduce the basic concepts of ferroptosis, characterized by the features of non-apoptotic, iron-dependent, and overwhelmed accumulation of lipid peroxides, and the underlying regulated circuits are considered to be pro-ferroptotic pathways.
