Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to analyze the relationship between high altitude (above 1,500 m) and the prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), concluding that while COPD prevalence is higher in these areas, altitude itself is not an independent risk factor for the disease.
  • - Researchers reviewed 4,574 studies and included 10 that involved 54,578 participants, finding a 10% overall COPD prevalence among those at high altitude, with notable regional differences, especially higher rates in Asia compared to Europe and America.
  • - Despite the findings of increased COPD prevalence, the analysis indicated that factors other than altitude are more significant in contributing to the development of COPD, as demonstrated by an odds ratio of 1.18, suggesting
