The significance of hypoxia at the maternal-fetal interface is proven to be self-explanatory in the context of pregnancy. During the first trimester, low oxygen conditions play a crucial role in processes such as angiogenesis, trophoblast invasion and differentiation, and immune regulation. Recently, there has been increasing research on decidual macrophages, which contribute to the maintenance of immune tolerance, placental and fetal vascular development, and spiral artery remodeling, to investigate the effects of hypoxia on their biological behaviors.

Aerobic methane oxidation (MOx) can reduce atmospheric evasion, but the magnitude and control of MOx remain poorly understood. Methods: The medical data were collected from all live VLBWIs (gestational age <35 weeks) who were admitted to Jiangsu Women and Children Health Hospital and Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021. Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, 574 VLBWIs were included in the study, with 44 VLBWIs in the pulmonary hemorrhage group and 530 VLBWIs in the non-pulmonary hemorrhage group.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the medical data of 566 preterm infants (gestational age ≤34 weeks) who were treated and required assisted ventilation and caffeine citrate treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit of 30 tertiary hospitals in Jiangsu Province of China between January 1 and December 31, 2019. The 405 preterm infants receiving high-dose (10 mg/kg per day) caffeine citrate after a loading dose of 20 mg/kg within 24 hours after birth were enrolled as the high-dose group.

Pif1 helicases, conserved in eukaryotes, are involved in maintaining genome stability in both the nucleus and mitochondria. Here, we report the crystal structure of a truncated Candida Albicans Pif1 (CaPif1) in complex with ssDNA and an ATP analog. Our results show that the Q-motif is responsible for identifying adenine bases, and CaPif1 preferentially utilizes ATP/dATP during dsDNA unwinding.

G-Quadruplexes (G4s) are thermodynamically stable, compact, and poorly hydrated structures that pose a potent obstacle for chromosome replication and gene expression, and requiring resolution by helicases in a cell. Bulk stopped-flow fluorescence assays have provided many mechanistic insights into helicase-mediated duplex DNA unwinding. However, to date, detailed studies on intramolecular G-quadruplexes similar or comparable with those used for studying duplex DNA are still lacking.

There are lines of evidence that the Bloom syndrome helicase, BLM, catalyzes regression of stalled replication forks and disrupts displacement loops (D-loops) formed during homologous recombination (HR). Here we constructed a forked DNA with a 3' single-stranded gap and a 5' double-stranded handle to partly mimic a stalled DNA fork and used magnetic tweezers to study BLM-catalyzed unwinding of the forked DNA. We have directly observed that the BLM helicase may slide on the opposite strand for some distance after duplex unwinding at different forces.
