Prostatic Schwannoma Presenting with Prostate-specific Antigen Elevation: A Case Report.

: Schwannoma of the male genital system is very uncommon and is mostly treated by surgery. However, prostatic schwannoma presenting with elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level and treated conservatively are extremely rare. : Herein, we present a rare case of a prostatic schwannoma in a 65-year-old man who initially presented with an elevated PSA level.

Methods: We analyzed data retrieved from the medical records of patients with intermediate-/high-risk NMIBC treated with intravesical mitomycin (IM group) or locoregional deep hyperthermia combined with intravesical mitomycin (CHT group) at a single tertiary care hospital between May 2016 and June 2019.

Methods: A systematic review of English and non-English articles was conducted. All observational studies in databases including PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library Trials Register, and Google Scholar were searched until 5 October 2020.

Immunosuppressive therapies decrease the incidence of acute kidney rejection after kidney transplantation, but also increase the risk of infections and sepsis. This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with complications and/or graft failure in kidney transplant patients with sepsis. A total of 14,658 kidney transplant patients with sepsis, identified in the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database (data from 2005-2014), were included in the study and classified into three groups: patients without complications or graft failure/dialysis (Group 1), patients with complications only (Group 2), and patients with complications and graft failure/dialysis (Group 3).

Quercetin is a plant-derived bioflavonoid that was recently shown to have multiple anticancer activities in various solid tumors. Here, novel molecular mechanisms through which quercetin exerts its anticancer effects in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells were investigated. Results from Western blot and flow cytometric assays revealed that quercetin significantly induced caspase-8, caspase-9, and caspase-3 activation, poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) cleavage, and mitochondrial membrane depolarization in HL-60 AML cells.

Efficacy and safety of orally disintegrating tamsulosin tablets in Taiwanese patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Objectives: Tamsulosin is an alpha-1 adrenoceptor antagonist applied in treating lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) suggestive of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This study aimed to evaluate safety, efficacy and acceptance of newly formulated orally disintegrating tamsulosin tablets in Taiwanese patients with LUTS/BPH.

Methods: This single center, non-comparative, observational study enrolled 45 male patients over age 50 years.

Lipoteichoic acid (LTA), a gram-positive bacterial outer membrane component, can cause septic shock. Our previous studies showed that ketamine has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects on gram-negative LPS-induced macrophage activation. In this study, we further evaluated the effects of ketamine on the regulation of LTA-induced TNF-alpha and IL-6 gene expressions and oxidative stress production in macrophages and its possible mechanisms.
