Electrospinning is a cost-effective and flexible technology for producing nanofibers with large specific surface areas, functionalized surfaces, and stable structures. In recent years, electrospun nanofibers have attracted more and more attention in electrochemical biosensors due to their excellent morphological and structural properties. This review outlines the principle of electrospinning technology.

Article Synopsis
  • Isorhamnetin is a natural compound that may help reduce inflammation in the kidneys and is being studied for its effects in acute kidney injury (AKI).
  • Researchers tested it on mice and special cells to see how it works and to measure kidney health.
  • The study found that isorhamnetin could protect kidneys by lowering harmful inflammation and boosting a helpful factor called SLPI, which helps reduce inflammation in cells.

Nanofibers (NFs) have found wide applications by virtue of their particular morphology and high specific surface area. In this study, size-tunable hollow CuO/NiO NFs were synthesized by coaxial electrospinning and subsequent calcination. The synthesized hollow CuO/NiO NFs owned large specific surface area for catalytic active sites.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is a common dermatologic malignancy characterized by aberrant proliferation of keratinocytes. Molecular targeted therapy appears to be a promising approach for advanced cSCC. Long noncoding RNA growth arrest specific 5 (GAS5) was reported to be downregulated in skin cancer tissues.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious complication in critically ill patients. Accumulating evidences indicated that macrophages play an important pro-inflammatory role in AKI and isoliquiritigenin (ISL) can inhibit macrophagic inflammation, but its role in AKI and the underlying mechanism are unknown. The present study aims to investigate the renoprotective effect of ISL on AKI and the role of Formyl peptide receptors 2 (FPR2) in this process.

Nanoalloy shows significant advantages and broad application prospects in chemical catalysis, due to the possessed high specific surface energy and abundant active sites can greatly promote their catalytic performance. In this work, morphology-controlled Cu-Sn alloy nanosheet arrays supported on carbon fiber paper (CP) substrate (Cu-Sn/CP) have been developed by a facile one-step electrodeposition technique at room temperature for the first time. Benefiting from the large active surface area, considerable ion transport channels and strong synergistic catalytic effect between Cu and Sn, the as-prepared Cu-Sn/CP served as a self-supported electrode for efficient nonenzymatic glucose sensing.

The objective of this research was to identify and characterize the chemical compounds that exhibited monosodium glutamate (MSG)-like taste in the hydrolyzed bone meal produced by using flavourzyme. The free amino acids and peptides in the bone meal hydrolysate were analyzed. The results showed that the glutamic acid and the aspartic acid in the bone meal increased by 13.

A novel non-enzymatic glucose sensor was established by galvanic replacement synthesis of Pd nanosheets (PdNS) on Cu/CuO nanocomposites using fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrates. To prepare PdNS-Cu/CuO/FTO electrode, Cu/CuO nanocomposites were firstly deposited on FTO electrode through potential oscillating, and then Pd nanosheets were synthesized on Cu/CuO nanocomposites by galvanic replacement reduction. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were applied to investigate the morphology and composition of PdNS-Cu/CuO nanohybrids.

Mixed transition-metal oxides have witnessed increasing attention in catalysts and electrocatalysts. Herein, reduced graphene oxide-wrapped ZnMnO microspheres (ZnMnO@rGO) were facilely synthesized through the solvothermal technique. The microstructure and morphology of ZnMnO@rGO microspheres were analyzed under Raman, X-ray photoelectron, X-ray diffraction, and energy-dispersive spectroscopies and scanning electron microscopy.

It has been widely accepted that lymph nodes (LNs) are critical targets of cancer vaccines and particles sized between 10 and 100 nm with a neutral or negative surface charge are preferred for lymphatic transfer after subcutaneous or intradermal injection. However their limited uptake by antigen presenting cells (APCs) and inadequate retention within LNs undoubtedly restrains their strength on activating T cell immunity. Here, we address this issue by tailoring the physicochemical properties of polymeric hybrid micelles (HMs), which are self-assembled from two amphiphilic diblock copolymers, poly-(ethylene glycol) phosphorethanolamine (PEG-PE) and polyethylenimine-stearic acid conjugate (PSA) via hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions.

Finding effective cures against aggressive malignancy remains a major challenge in cancer chemotherapy. Here, we report a "tadpole"-like peptide by covalently conjugating the alanine-alanine-asparagine "tail" residual to the cyclic tumor homing peptide iRGD (CCRGDKGPDC) to afford nRGD, which significantly enhanced tumoricidal effects of doxorubicin, by either co-administered as a physical mixture or as a targeting ligand covalently conjugated to the liposomal carrier. Given twice at an equivalent dose of 5 mg/kg, doxorubicin loaded liposomes modified with nRGD (nRGD-Lipo-Dox) showed excellent antitumor efficacy in 4T1 breast cancer mice, of which 44.
