The rare zoonotic Borna disease virus (BDV) causes fatal neurological disease in various animals, with a high mortality rate exceeding 90% in central Europe. However, unlike most viruses, it establishes persistent infections within the host cell nucleus, hindering treatment. As successful BDV treatments remain elusive, the researchers turned to a computational approach, utilizing molecular docking, ADME/T, post-docking MMGBSA, MD simulation, DCCM, and PCA to identify promising phytochemical drug candidates targeting the BDV Nucleoprotein (PDB ID: 1N93).

Anemia is a critical medical condition in public health concern in tropical and subtropical areas, and understanding its hematological changes is crucial for improving diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. It manifests through symptoms like weakness, fatigue, pale skin, and shortness of breath due to insufficient hemoglobin or red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen, with severe cases leading to complications such as chest pain. Common causes include blood loss, chronic diseases, and iron and vitamin deficiencies.

Cryptococcus neoformans causes cryptococcal meningitis, which is lethal to immune-compromised people, especially AIDS patients. This study employed diverse in silico techniques to find the best phytochemical to block farnesyltransferase (FTase). Based on molecular docking, the top two compounds selected from a screening of 5807 phytochemical compounds from 29 medicinal plants were CID_8299 (hydroxyacetone) and CID_71346280 (1,7-bis (4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,4,6-heptatrien-3-one), with docking scores of -5.

The dynamics of swimming bacteria depend on the properties of their habitat media. Recently it is shown that the motion of swimming bacteria dispersed directly in a non-toxic water-based lyotropic chromonic liquid crystal can be controlled by the director field of the liquid crystal. Here, we investigate whether the macroscopic polar order of a ferroelectric nematic liquid crystal (N) can be recognized by bacteria B.

Segmentation is a critical step in analyzing the developing human fetal brain. There have been vast improvements in automatic segmentation methods in the past several years, and the Fetal Brain Tissue Annotation (FeTA) Challenge 2021 helped to establish an excellent standard of fetal brain segmentation. However, FeTA 2021 was a single center study, limiting real-world clinical applicability and acceptance.

The highly pathogenic Marburg virus (MARV) is a member of the Filoviridae family, a non-segmented negative-strand RNA virus. This article represents the computer-aided drug design (CADD) approach for identifying drug-like compounds that prevent the MARV virus disease by inhibiting nucleoprotein, which is responsible for their replication. This study used a wide range of in silico drug design techniques to identify potential drugs.

  • The Nipah virus (NiV) poses a significant public health risk due to its high fatality rate and lack of effective treatments; this study aims to identify potential drug candidates using computational methods.
  • Researchers focused on the NiV-enveloped attachment glycoprotein, essential for the virus to enter host cells, and screened 418 phytochemicals from the neem plant using molecular docking techniques.
  • Three promising phytochemicals—Quercetin, Cianidanol, and Kaempferol—demonstrated strong binding stability and favorable safety profiles, suggesting their potential as novel treatments for NiV infections.

IS1111 and IS110 insertion sequence (IS) family members encode an unusual DEDD transposase type and exhibit specific target site selection. The IS1111 group include identifiable subterminal inverted repeats (sTIR) not found in the IS110 type. IS in both families include a noncoding region (NCR) of significant length and, as each individual IS or group of closely related IS selects a different site, we had previously proposed that an NCR-derived RNA was involved in target selection.

Lung cancer, the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths, accounts for a substantial portion, representing 18.4% of all cancer fatalities. Despite advances in treatment modalities such as chemotherapy, surgery, and immunotherapy, significant challenges persist, including chemoresistance, non-specific targeting, and adverse effects.

Harnessing the power of deep neural networks in the medical imaging domain is challenging due to the difficulties in acquiring large annotated datasets, especially for rare diseases, which involve high costs, time, and effort for annotation. Unsupervised disease detection methods, such as anomaly detection, can significantly reduce human effort in these scenarios. While anomaly detection typically focuses on learning from images of healthy subjects only, real-world situations often present unannotated datasets with a mixture of healthy and diseased subjects.

Article Synopsis
  • Substantial low-value petroleum fractions are produced during oil refining processes, including light naphtha and vacuum residue.
  • The oil industry seeks to economically convert these low-value fractions into high-value products using sustainable methods like controlled autoxidation, which can create useful compounds like alcohols and ketones.
  • This approach not only opens up pathways to value-added products, such as carbon fiber precursors, but also lowers production costs for highly demanded materials like carbon fiber.

Age is one of the major known risk factors for Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Detecting AD early is crucial for effective treatment and preventing irreversible brain damage. Brain age, a measure derived from brain imaging reflecting structural changes due to aging, may have the potential to identify AD onset, assess disease risk, and plan targeted interventions.

Rice bran (RB) and rice bran oil (RBO) are exploring as prominent food component worldwide and their compositional variation is being varied among the world due to regional and production process. In this study, Fermented Rice Bran (FRB) was produced by employing edible gram-positive bacteria (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Bifidobacterium bifidum) at 125×10 spore g of rice bran, and investigated to evaluate nutritional quality. The Crude Rice Bran Oil (CRBO) was extracted from RB and its quality was also investigated compared to market available rice bran oil (MRBO) in Bangladesh.

Background: A global catastrophe-the COVID-19 pandemic-appears to have two-dimensional health consequences for older adults: high risk of being infected and psychological distress. There is limited evidence on how the pandemic has impacted the life and coping of older adults who are culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), women in particular. This study explored the COVID-19 risk perception and coping strategies of older CALD women in South Australia.

The aim of this study is to analyze the use of vitamin E to enhance fabric's hand feel, moisture management and fabric strength which are affected due to flame retardant finish. Flame retardant treated fabrics typically become stiff, but the addition of Vitamin E along with emulsifier and binding agent through a vertical padding mangle by two times dipping and nipping results a soft fabric without impairing the flammability properties as determined by 45-degree flammability test. The samples were characterized by FTIR spectra, SEM images, and water contact angle.
