Cryopyrin-associated periodic syndrome (CAPS) is a genetic disorder and autoinflammatory disease characterized by chronic inflammation throughout the body. The most severe form of CAPS, Chronic Infantile Neurologic Cutaneous, and Articular (CINCA) syndrome, also known as Neonatal Onset Multisystem Inflammatory Disease (NOMID), has three main features: skin rash, CNS involvement, and joint symptoms. Although these symptoms are typically reported shortly after birth, there have been a few reports of prenatal inflammation.

Objective: To identify whether histologically confirmed chorioamnionitis (hCAM) is associated with development of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).

Study Design: We retrospectively analyzed 2 different cohorts. Cohort 1 was the national database of newborns in Japan born at ≤1500g or <32 weeks' gestation (January 2003 through April 2021, n = 38 013).

Background: Weight-loss approaches involving mindfulness have been reported to reduce overeating behavior. We conducted a preliminary evaluation of the feasibility and effectiveness of a mindfulness mobile application (MMA) combined with a comprehensive lifestyle intervention (CLI) focused on weight loss and eating behaviors for people with metabolic syndrome based on post-intervention follow-up data.

Method: Participants were randomly assigned (1:1) to a CLI group or a CLI + MMA group.

The safety and effectiveness of pazopanib are related to plasma trough concentrations in renal cell carcinoma (RCC); however, data on pazopanib plasma trough concentrations with soft tissue sarcoma (STS) are limited. This study investigated the relationship between plasma trough concentrations and pazopanib safety in 45 Japanese patients with RCC or STS. Among the 33 patients included, the median pazopanib trough concentration was 37.

Although chorioamnionitis (CAM) has been demonstrated to be associated with numerous short- and long-term morbidities, the precise mechanisms remain unclear. One of the reasons for this is the lack of appropriate models for analyzing the relationship between the fetal environment and chorioamnionitis and fetal programming in humans. In this study, we aimed to clarify the fetal programming caused by CAM using the gene expression profiles of UCMSCs.

Assistive technology (AT) is any item, device, software, or product system used to enhance, maintain, or improve the functional abilities of people with disabilities. There are many people with disabilities in the world, including the visually impaired, the hearing impaired, and the physically impaired. We established the National KOSEN Support Equipment Development Network (KOSEN-AT) with technical college faculty members 10 years ago to assist these disabled and elderly people.

Aim: To evaluate the feasibility of a newly developed prototype MRI projection mapping (PM) system for localization of invasive breast cancer before breast-conserving surgery.

Methods: This prospective study enrolled 10 women with invasive breast cancer. MRI was performed in both prone and supine positions.

Although a short hydration protocol for cisplatin has been recently developed for use in lung cancer, this has yet to be established for gastric cancer. This study reviewed medical records of patients with gastric cancer who received XPT(capecitabine/cisplatin/trastuzumab) therapy containing cisplatin. Patients received either the conventional or short hydration regimen.

We have collected various gestures from persons with motor dysfunction who cannot use normal interface switches to develop contactless, non-constraining, and inexpensive gesture interfaces for operating PCs by utilizing a commercially available image range sensor. We describe the collection and classification of the gestures and the foot gesture recognition module.

Carbon ion therapy is a type of radiotherapy that can deliver high-dose radiation to a tumor while minimizing the dose delivered to organs at risk. Moreover, carbon ions are classified as high linear energy transfer radiation and are expected to be effective for even photon-resistant tumors. A 73-year-old man with glottic squamous cell carcinoma, T3N0M0, refused laryngectomy and received carbon ion therapy of 70 Gy (relative biological effectiveness) in 35 fractions.

Aim: The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the efficacy of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) as the first-choice treatment in patients with bleeding peptic ulcer after the failure of endoscopic hemostasis. An additional objective was to clarify endoscopic treatment resistance factors.

Methods: Between April 2004 and December 2010, 554 patients were admitted to Kasugai Municipal Hospital for necessary endoscopic hemostasis for bleeding gastric ulcer or duodenal ulcer.

Kaolinite nanoscrolls, rolled kaolinite sheets with a tubular form, were prepared by a one-step route in which intercalation of guest species and swelling with solvent proceed at the same time. A methoxy-modified kaolinite was exfoliated by the intercalation of hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride. The formation of nanoscrolls by the one-step route proceeded only by several alkyltrimethylammonium salts and 1-hexadecyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride.

A 72-year-old woman was admitted with an abdominal tumor, which had been detected by computed tomography scanning. Endoscopic examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract revealed a type 3 tumor in the descending limb of the duodenum. A diagnosis of adenocarcinoma was made on the basis of the histological analysis of the biopsy sample.

A porphycene having four CF3 groups at the beta-pyrrolic positions affords a stable 20pi-conjugated form in the presence of a 2H+-2e- donor due to the high redox potential of the tetrapyrrole ring framework. No visible band in the UV-vis spectrum and the highly ruffled structure determined by X-ray crystallography support its nonaromatic character. The ethylene bridge moiety in the 20pi-conjugated framework displayed the olefinic reactivities.

An iron porphycene, a structural isomer of iron porphyrin, with trifluoromethyl groups at the peripheral position of the framework was incorporated into sperm whale apomyoglobin. The prepared myoglobin shows the higher O(2) affinity than the native protein. However, the oxygen affinity of the reconstituted myoglobin is lower than that of the myoglobin having an iron porphycene without trifluoromethyl groups, which is mainly originated from the enhancement of the O(2) dissociation.

We report on a rare case of substernal thyroid carcinoma extending into the posterior mediastinum of a 48-year-old man. The tumor was resected by partial sternotomy and a small anterior thoracotomy, combined with video-assisted thoracoscopy. The pathological diagnosis was of a well differentiated papillary adenocarcinoma of the thyroid with mediastinal extension.

To study the effects of superselective intraarterial chemotherapy with low-dose CBDCA, Pirarubicin, and concurrent radiotherapy on head and neck cancer, we compared primary cancer response and histopathological effective grades in 66 patients (more than T2) divided into radical and preoperative radiotherapy groups. The radical group (n=33) showed a 75.7% response in primary cancer, i.

The synthesis of the first fluorine-containing iron porphycenes, 2,7,12,17-tetraethyl-3,6,13,16-tetrakis(trifluoromethyl)porphycenatoiron(III) chloride [FePc(EtioCF(3))]Cl and its micro-oxo dimer [FePc(EtioCF(3))](2)O and their characterizations are reported. The crystal structure of [FePc(EtioCF(3))](2)O displays a severe saddled distortion of the porphycene framework due to the steric and electronic effects of the CF(3) substituents. The oxidation and reduction potentials for the micro-oxo dimer are significantly more positive compared to those observed for the reference micro-oxo dimer of the iron porphycenes and porphyrins having no electron-withdrawing substituent.

[structure: see text] A pyrrolic macrocycle, beta-tetrakis(trifluoromethyl)porphycene, is the first example of a fluorine-containing porphycene. Four electron-withdrawing CF(3) substituents provide a highly distorted structure and an attractive electron-deficient nature for the porphycene framework. From the electrochemical study, it is found that the LUMO energy level for the beta-trifluoromethylporphycene is 1.
