Identification of miR-15b as a transformation-related factor in mantle cell lymphoma.

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is an aggressive B cell lymphoma with a poor prognosis. It is characterized by the t(11;14)(q13;q32) translocation, resulting in over-expression of CCND1. Morphologically, MCL is categorised into two types: classical MCL (cMCL) and aggressive MCL (aMCL), with a proportion of cMCL progressing to develop into aMCL.

Pulmonary nontuberculous mycobacterial infection caused by Mycobacterium szulgai in a young healthy woman.

A 20-year-old woman with no history of pulmonary disease had no symptom and her chest CT scans demonstrated adhesive small multiple nodules in the bronchial lung biopsy specimen showed epithelioid cell granuloma containing Langhans giant cells, therefore she was diagnosed as pulmonary mycobacteriosis caused by M. szulgai. This is the youngest case of this rare condition occurring in a healthy subject without underlying pulmonary diseases.

[A case of pyogenic spondylitis mimicking a spinal invasion of lung cancer].

A 58-year old man was admitted to our hospital complaining of right back pain, fever, abdominal fullness and epigastralgia. Chest CT revealed a mass shadow in the right S6 together with destruction of the thoracic vertebrae. These findings suggested lung cancer and its spinal invasion.

Hericium erinaceum (yamabushitake) extract-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome monitored by serum surfactant proteins.

This is the first report suggesting a causal relationship between acute respiratory distress syndrome and Hericium erinaceum extract, which is commercialized as a diet food. A 63-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for intensive care of severe acute respiratory failure with diffuse infiltration in both lungs. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid revealed a high percentage of lymphocytes.

[A case of chronic hypersensitivity pneumonia with elevation of serum SP-D and KL-6].

A 73-year-old woman suffering from dyspnea on effort and chronic cough was admitted to our hospital. Chest computed tomography disclosed ground-glass opacities, irregular linear opacities and honeycombing distributed predominantly in the subpleural area. The serum levels of SP-D and KL-6 rose to 889 ng/ml, 1,755 U/ml, respectively.
