We report a case of placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT) with transient hyperthyroidism. A 29-year-old gravida 2 para 2 woman presented with abnormal genital bleeding 6 months after delivery. Endometrial histology suggested PSTT.

Purpose: Analyzing dose distributions to regional lymph-node metastases (RLNMs) in locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) patients undergoing intracavitary and interstitial hybrid brachytherapy (IC/IS).

Methods: Dose distributions of eleven LACC patients with 38 RLNMs, and who received 38 IC/IS sessions were analyzed in EQD, considering RLNM positions and ipsilateral interstitial needles; these RLNMs, excepting the para-aortic region, were classified into four groups.

Results: RLNMs had a median of two ipsilateral interstitial needles per session.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers tested MucoUp®, a hyaluronic acid, as a spacer during brachytherapy for cervical cancer patients.
  • In five patients, using MucoUp® improved radiation delivery, raising the dose to the high-risk tumor area to over 80 Gy.
  • There were no adverse events reported related to the MucoUp® insertion.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare mesenchymal cell-derived tumors that can cause substantial bleeding during surgery due to hyper-vascularization. We report a case of a large retroperitoneal SFT resected completely using an intra-aortic balloon. A 71-year-old female with a history of type 2 diabetes mellitus presented with a tumor that was diagnosed as an insulin-like growth factor-II-producing benign SFT using computed tomography-guided biopsy.

Purpose: This is a report of our initial experience using computed tomography (CT)-guided interstitial high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy to treat bulky pelvic nodal metastases as a part of definitive radiotherapy.

Material And Methods: Between February 2015 and April 2019, 14 cervical/endometrial cancer patients presenting with bulky pelvic node(s) underwent nodal interstitial brachytherapy boost in our institution. In total, 17 nodes were treated.

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) selectively promotes translation of mRNAs with atypically long and structured 5'-UTRs and has been implicated in drug resistance. Through genome-wide transcriptome and translatome analysis we revealed eIF4E overexpression could promote cellular activities mediated by ERα and FOXM1 signalling pathways. Whilst eIF4E overexpression could enhance the translation of both ERα and FOXM1, it also led to enhanced transcription of FOXM1.

Cervicovaginal atresia with a functional uterus is rare. There are no established surgical methods to treat this condition, and only a few reports have been published on surgical techniques. Furthermore, postoperative complications, such as restenosis, often require reoperation.

Aim: Microsatellite instability (MSI), which reflects loss of DNA mismatch repair (MMR) activity, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) for MMR proteins are employed as screening examinations for Lynch syndrome (LS). Recent studies revealed that there is a population of MSI-high tumors in sporadic endometrial cancer (EC). However, MSI data for Japanese EC patients are scarce.

Uterine leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a rare tumor. It has not been established if these tumors arise de novo or from pre-existing leiomyomas (LM). We report a case herein of LMS arising from a subserosal LM.

Isolated incisional recurrence in a patient with early-stage endometrioid carcinoma is extremely rare. The mechanism of this recurrence also remains unclear. We describe a case of an isolated incisional recurrence of endometrioid carcinoma from the uterine corpus 4 years after the primary surgery.

Objective: To review and evaluate drug-induced vasculitis, which is an extremely rare complication of chemotherapy.

Case Report: A 47-year-old woman with ovarian cancer developed aortitis during bevacizumab combination chemotherapy. Contract-enhanced CT showed concentric thickening of the descending aorta.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) with bevacizumab (Bev) at our institute.

Materials And Methods: Eleven patients with stage IIIC or IV peritoneal/ovarian cancer who underwent interval debulking surgery (IDS) after NAC with Bev between December 2014 and December 2016 were enrolled retrospectively (TCB group). As a control group, we enrolled 13 patients evaluated between December 2012 and December 2014 who underwent IDS and received NAC without Bev (TC group).

Objective: To analyze the efficacy of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for the diagnosis of uterine sarcoma.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-four patients evaluated between January 2010 and March 2015 were retrospectively enrolled. All patients in whom uterine sarcoma was suspected based on contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings (heterogeneous, high signal intensity on T2-weighted images and/or high intensity on T1-weighted images) underwent PET/CT for further assessment.

Objective: Surgery for uterine cervical fibroids is difficult because of restricted surgical access and risks such as intraoperative bleeding or injury to other organs. The internal iliac artery balloon occlusion catheter (IIABOC) provides effective hemostasis for placenta previa and atonic hemorrhage, and is increasingly used in surgery for uterine fibroids for controlling intraoperative hemorrhage. We investigated the efficacy and safety of the IIABOC for controlling intraoperative bleeding in total abdominal hysterectomies (TAH) and abdominal myomectomies (AM) for large cervical fibroids.
