Article Synopsis
  • A previous study found a link between a specific SNP (g.420 C>A) in the cholecystokinin type A receptor gene and improved growth traits in the Hinai-dori chicken breed from Japan.
  • In this study, researchers confirmed that the same SNP also positively affects growth traits in Hinai-jidori chickens, a hybrid of Hinai-dori and Rhode Island Red chickens.
  • The results indicated that chickens with the A/A genotype had significantly higher body weights and growth rates, suggesting that this SNP could be a valuable marker for enhancing growth in selective breeding programs for Hinai-jidori chickens.*

We previously identified quantitative trait loci (QTL) for body weight and average daily gain in a common region between ADL0198 (chr 1: 171.7 Mb) and ABR0287 (chr 1: 173.4 Mb) on chicken chromosome 1 in an F2 resource population produced by crossing low- and high-growth lines of the Hinai-dori breed.

The highly abundant and widely dispersed plant Plantago lanceolata L. (narrow leaf or English plantain) has been used for culinary and medicinal purposes since ancient times. Here, we investigated the anti-obesity effects of P.

We previously identified quantitative trait loci for body weight and average daily gain in a common region between MCW0240 (chr 4: 69.9 Mb) and ABR0622 (chr 4: 86.3 Mb) on chicken chromosome 4 in an F(2) resource population produced by crossing low- and high-growth lines of the Hinai-dori breed.

Recently, we reported a method for discriminating a Japanese brand of chicken, the Hinai-jidori. As an application of this method for discriminating Hinai-jidori eggs, we here report an efficient method for extracting maternal DNA from eggshells. Eggshell powder was completely decalcified with EDTA solution, and then DNA was isolated by conventional phenol-chloroform extraction and ethanol precipitation.
