This case report discusses a 48-year-old woman with metastatic breast cancer: T4c(10.5 cm)N2bM1,(OSS, LYM), stage IV, estrogen receptor(ER)(+), progesterone receptor(PgR)(+), human epidermal growth factor receptor-2(HER2) (-), and Ki-67 17.2%.

In the present study, we investigated the effects of 3,5,6,7,8,3',4'-heptamethoxyflavone (HMF), one of the PMFs, on inflammation in the brain in vivo using mice injected intrahippocampally with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). We demonstrated that subcutaneously injected HMF suppressed: (1) LPS-induced losses in body weight; (2) LPS-induced microglial activation in the hippocampus; and (3) LPS-induced interleukin-1β mRNA expression in the hippocampus.

The results showed that HMF, administrated for three days immediately after ischemic surgery, protected against ischemia-induced memory dysfunction, rescued neuronal cell death in the CA1 cell layer, increased the production of BDNF, stimulated the autophosphorylation of CaMK II and suppressed microglial activation in the hippocampus. These results suggest that HMF has a neuroprotective effect after brain ischemia by inducing BDNF production and anti-inflammatory effects.

These results suggest that HMF has the ability to induce BDNF production in astrocytes and enhance neurogenesis after brain ischemia, which may be mediated by activation of ERK1/2 and CREB.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAcute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is characterized by t(15;17)(q22;q21), which results in the fusion of the promyelocytic leukemia (PML) gene at 15q22 with the retinoic acid alpha-receptor (RARA) at 17q21. We report a patient with APL carrying a new complex variant translocation (5;17;15;20). Spectral karyotyping analysis of bone marrow cells revealed t(5;17;15;20)(q33;q12;q22;q11.
