Article Synopsis
  • - A new traction device for gastric endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) was developed to improve the technique by allowing for different direction adjustments during the procedure.
  • - In a study comparing conventional ESD (75 patients) to traction-assisted ESD (73 patients), the main focus was on how long the procedures took.
  • - Results showed similar overall procedure times between the two methods, but traction-assisted ESD was faster for lesions located in the upper or middle stomach's lesser curvature, indicating potential efficiency benefits in specific cases.

  • Sarcopenia is a condition where people lose muscle strength, and this study looked at how it affects cancer patients who can’t have surgery.
  • The researchers studied 113 patients who had a special procedure to help with a blocked bile duct and found that those with sarcopenia were more likely to have problems later.
  • The results showed that patients with sarcopenia had a higher chance of recurring blockages compared to those without it, making it an important factor to consider for treatment.

Introduction: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) allows the en bloc resection of colorectal epithelial tumors regardless of size. Although ESD is minimally invasive and yields favorable outcomes, it is technically difficult and requires a long procedure time. In addition, colorectal ESD is associated with a particularly high risk of complications, due to the thin bowel wall, bowel flexion, and peristalsis.

Introduction: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is an advanced therapeutic technique for en bloc resection of superficial gastrointestinal neoplasms. Although gastric ESD is minimally invasive and provides favorable outcomes, it is technically difficult and requires a long procedure time for dissection. The traction-assisted approach overcomes some of the difficulties of gastric ESD, but its ability to reduce the procedure time remains unclear.

  • Continuous delivery of levodopa/carbidopa via an infusion system helps manage Parkinson's disease symptoms more effectively.
  • A 72-year-old patient developed complications three months after the procedure, including abdominal pain and vomiting, which were linked to a telescoping issue in her digestive tract.
  • The primary issue was identified as a large food bezoar that was obstructing the tube, which was successfully treated during a colonoscopy, highlighting that a fiber-free diet and regular tube maintenance can prevent such complications.

Article Synopsis
  • * In a group of 73 patients with solitary HCC tumors ≤5 cm, those with irregular defects in Kupffer-phase CEUS images showed higher rates of both intrahepatic and extrahepatic metastatic recurrences.
  • * The research concluded that irregular findings on Kupffer-phase images are significantly linked to increased rates of microscopic vascular invasion and metastatic recurrence after surgery for HCC.

Entecavir requires long-term administration. Pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) therapy leads to significant reduction of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBs Ag) levels. This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of adding PEG-IFN--2a to entecavir toward cessation of entecavir.

We have previously reported that serum pepsinogen (PG) can quantify the level of gastric mucosal atrophy, and that H. pylori eradication reduces cancer development in subjects with mild atrophy identified by serum PG levels. The aim of this study was to elucidate the predictive ability of serum PG levels for the development of metachronous gastric cancer (MGC) after endoscopic resection (ER) of primary cancer in association with H.

A 37-year-old woman who had previously been diagnosed with idiopathic chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIPO) at another hospital was admitted to our institution with severe abdominal pain. She had a history of several abdominal surgeries to treat ileus at the previous hospital, and contrast-enhanced computed tomography on admission revealed subileus without any apparent causes of obstruction. Total parenteral nutrition, a gastrointestinal prokinetic agent, and opiates reduced persistent pain;however, breakthrough pain continued.

Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) was performed on a patient being treated for chronic pancreatitis because a submucosal tumor was observed in the stomach during gastrointestinal endoscopy. As internal pulsatile blood flow on Doppler was present, the diagnosis of an aneurysm was made. The pseudoaneurysm of the left gastric artery was embolized with histoacryl and lipiodol and the splenic artery was embolized with coils at the location of the pseudoaneurysm to prevent hemorrhage.

von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome is an inherited neoplastic syndrome caused by abnormity of the VHL gene found on the short arm of the chromosome 3. We reported a case of VHL disease diagnosed by the detection of multiple pancreatic endocrine tumors and renal tumor 13 years after bilateral adrenalectomy. A 40-year-old man presented with multiple pancreas tumors (maximum size 42 mm in diameter) detected by screening abdominal ultrasonography.

Article Synopsis
  • A 28-year-old man presented with tarry stools, leading to examinations that revealed a bleeding submucosal tumor at the papilla of Vater and a swollen # 17b lymph node, suggesting hypervascularity.
  • The tumor was diagnosed as gangliocytic paraganglioma, which showed metastasis to the affected lymph node after enucleation.
  • While most gangliocytic paragangliomas are benign, this case highlights that about 7% can spread to lymph nodes, emphasizing its significance for treatment strategies.
