Background: Caesarean section (CS) is the most common inpatient surgical procedure performed in Canada. CS is known to cause moderate-to-severe pain, which is suggested to be associated with postpartum depression and persistent pain. Existing limitations in multimodal analgesia and conscious attempts to avoid opioids highlight the need for non-pharmacological strategies.

FGTI-2734 Inhibits ERK Reactivation to Overcome Sotorasib Resistance in KRAS G12C Lung Cancer.

KRAS G12C targeted therapies, such as sotorasib, represent a major breakthrough, but overall response rates and progression-free survival for patients with KRAS G12C lung cancer are modest due to the emergence of resistance mechanisms involving adaptive reactivation of ERK, which requires wild-type (WT) HRAS and NRAS membrane localization. Here, we demonstrate that the dual farnesyltransferase (FT) and geranylgeranyltransferase-1 (GGT-1) inhibitor FGTI-2734 inhibits WT RAS membrane localization and sotorasib-induced ERK feedback reactivation, and overcomes sotorasib adaptive resistance. The combination of FGTI-2734 and sotorasib is synergistic at inhibiting the viability and inducing apoptosis of KRAS G12C lung cancer cells, including those highly resistant to sotorasib.

We report a case of a 25 year old immunocompetent female who was admitted with an initial diagnosis of dengue fever and diagnosed as having co-infection of COVID-19 and Brucella leading to secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).

Hemi-tongue Ischemia Due to Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome-A Case Report.

Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, also known as Hughes syndrome, is a multi-system autoimmune disorder characterized by recurrent thrombosis and fetal loss. The most common types of antiphospholipid antibodies include lupus anticoagulants, anticardiolipin antibodies, and anti-beta 2 glycoprotein 1 antibodies. Owing to the prothrombotic nature of this disease, diagnosing and treating the condition as early as possible is necessary.

Vibrio Cholera, a gram negative bacterium, is notoriously known to cause diarrheal epidemics. The serotypes O1 and O139 are mainly responsible for the diarrheal outbreaks due to the enterotoxin they produce. Background: Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) has proved ineffective in treating patients hospitalised with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), but uncertainty remains over its safety and efficacy in chemoprevention. Previous chemoprevention randomised controlled trials (RCTs) did not individually show benefit of HCQ against COVID-19 and, although meta-analysis did suggest clinical benefit, guidelines recommend against its use.

A catalyst-free one-pot synthetic protocol is presented for the preparation of CF-containing benzofuran, indolin, and benzothiophene derivatives using readily available aromatic aldehydes and ketones. 2-Bromo-3,3,3-trifluoropropene was employed as a non-corrosive and environmentally benign trifluoromethylacetylene synthon for incorporation of the CF group. The reaction proceeds the formation of a suitably substituted 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-phenylbut-2-yn-1-ol intermediate, which undergoes 5- cyclization, resulting in an exocyclic double bond with -configuration.

Amelanotic Melanoma Invading the Heart.

We present a case of a middle-aged woman who initially presented with shortness of breath but was ultimately found to have a large mass-like lesion in the right atrium of the heart with multi-modality imaging including cardiac computed tomography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, and echocardiogram. We previously developed a computer-assisted image analysis algorithm to detect and quantify the microscopic features of rodent progressive cardiomyopathy (PCM) in rat heart histologic sections and validated the results with a panel of five veterinary toxicologic pathologists using a multinomial logistic model. In this study, we assessed both the inter-rater and intra-rater agreement of the pathologists and compared pathologists' ratings to the artificial intelligence (AI)-predicted scores. We present a case of a young woman having recurrent admissions secondary to cyclical vomiting syndrome complicated with stress-induced cardiomyopathy/takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC). She not only had left ventricular dysfunction but also suffered from anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder for which professional help was sought. TC is defined as reversible, transient ventricular dysfunction in the absence of coronary artery disease.
