Effects of cypermethrin exposure on learning and memory functions and anxiety-like behavior in rats.

Background: Cypermethrin (CYP), a synthetic pyrethroid widely used to control plant pests, has been associated with various diseases in humans exposed to pesticides, either directly or indirectly. This study aimed to examine the effects of CYP on learning and memory functions, as well as anxiety-like behavior.

Methods: Forty male Wistar rats (8 weeks old) were randomly assigned to 4 groups: The first group served as the control, while the other three groups received different doses of CYP (5, 20, and 80 mg/kg) via gavage once daily for one month.

Electrochemical energy storage plays a critical role in the transition to clean energy. With the growing demand for efficient and sustainable energy solutions, supercapacitors have gained significant attention due to their high specific capacitance, rapid charge/discharge capabilities, long lifespan, safe operation across various temperatures, and minimal maintenance needs. This study introduces a novel approach for the synthesis of high-performance supercapacitor electrodes by using MnNi-MOF-74 as a precursor.

The prevalence of herbal medicine use and related factors among diabetic patients in Tabriz, Iran, 2023: a cross-sectional study.

Objectives: This study was designed to characterize the prevalence, pattern of herbal use, and related factors among diabetic patients in Tabriz, Iran.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on 322 diabetic patients with random cluster sampling of specialized and subspecialized clinics in Tabriz, Iran. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the association between predictor variables (sociodemographic and disease-related characteristics and patient preference for treatment type) with herb use Interviews were conducted using a structured questionnaire from October 1, 2022, to April 23, 2023.

Effects of Acupuncture on Cognitive Functions in Patients with Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objective: To explore the effects of acupuncture in comparison with sham acupuncture on cognitive functions in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS).

Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, 31 RRMS patients in the acupuncture group were treated with traditional Chinese acupuncture based on the treatment principle of calming the mind, reinforcing qi and blood, and 31 patients in the control group were treated with sham acupuncture (shallow needling at non-acupuncture points) twice a week for 12 weeks. The primary outcome was the Brief International Cognitive Assessment for Multiple Sclerosis (BICAMS) score, which was evaluated by a psychologist at baseline and after 12 weeks of treatment.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of radiation exposure in spinal surgeries: Comparing C-Arm, CT navigation, and O-Arm techniques.

Introduction: Advanced imaging techniques, such as C-arm fluoroscopy, O-arm, and CT navigation, are integral to achieving precision in orthopedic surgeries. However, these technologies also expose patients, surgeons, and operating room staff to varying levels of radiation. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluate the radiation exposure (RE) associated with these imaging modalities and their impact on surgical outcomes.

Femoral anteversion as a potential risk factor for anterior cruciate ligament injuries in athletes.

Purpose: Non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are influenced by the anatomic and biomechanical characteristics of the lower limb. The combination of knee valgus, hip internal rotation and tibial external rotation are important contributors to non-contact ACL injuries. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of femoral anteversion on the incidence of ACL injuries among athletes.

Study protocol for the PICASSO trial: A randomized placebo-controlled trial to investigate the efficacy and safety of intraarticular steroid injections and an occupational therapy intervention in painful inflammatory carpometacarpal-1 osteoarthritis.

Objective: Our primary objectives are to assess whether intraarticular corticosteroid injections are superior to saline injections with regards to thumb base pain after 4 weeks, and to compare the efficacy of steroid injections, saline injections, and an occupational therapy intervention on thumb base pain after 12 weeks in people with painful inflammatory osteoarthritis (OA) of the first carpometacarpal (CMC-1) joint.

Design: In this three-armed, double-blind, randomized multicenter trial, 354 participants with painful inflammatory CMC-1 OA from six Norwegian hospitals are recruited. Participants are randomized 1:1:1 to intraarticular steroid or saline injections in the CMC-1 joint or a multimodal occupational therapy intervention.

Effectiveness of acupuncture and a cumin-based herbal formula on anthropometric indices of overweight patients: a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial.

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of a Persian Medicine herbal formula and a Traditional Chinese Medicine intervention (acupuncture) on the improvement of weight and anthropometric indices of overweight patients.

Methods: This study was a randomized placebo-controlled double-blind clinical trial. A total of 200 overweight patients were randomly divided into 4 groups receiving either (1) Herbal capsule, (2) placebo capsule, (3) acupuncture, or (4) sham acupuncture.

Antibiotic Treatment for 7 versus 14 Days in Patients with Bloodstream Infections.

Background: Bloodstream infections are associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Early, appropriate antibiotic therapy is important, but the duration of treatment is uncertain.

Methods: In a multicenter, noninferiority trial, we randomly assigned hospitalized patients (including patients in the intensive care unit [ICU]) who had bloodstream infection to receive antibiotic treatment for 7 days or 14 days.

Mineral pollutants and coliform contamination in groundwater pose health risks to consumers: a spatiotemporal study in a mining-impacted area.

The presence of mineral pollutants, combined with bacterial contamination, has significantly impacted groundwater quality and led to various health-related issues in mining-impacted areas. Therefore, we measured the concentration of fluoride (F), phosphate (PO), sulphate (SO), ammonium (NH), nitrate (NO), the total coliforms (TCs), and physiochemical characteristics in groundwater samples of South Khorasan, Eastern Iran. For this, we collected water samples from 100 wells in spring and autumn across this mining-impacted area.

A Professional Development Program in Management of Midwifery Emergencies for Midwifery Graduates.

Background: Midwifery emergencies can be managed by providing effective and quality care through a skilled workforce. Improving the quality of midwifery care requires the professional development of midwives, especially those who are novice, to maintain their capabilities and enhance their performance. This study was designed to develop a professional development program in the management of midwifery emergencies for midwifery graduates.

Current instrumental variable methodology focuses mainly on estimating causal effects for a dichotomous or an ordinal treatment variable. Situations with more than two unordered treatments are less explored. The challenge is that assumptions needed to derive point-estimators become increasingly stronger with the number of relevant treatment alternatives.

Optimizing oxytetracycline removal from aqueous solutions using activated carbon from barley lignocellulosic wastes with isotherms and thermodynamic studies.

The excessive presence of antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline (OTC) in the wastewater has increased health problems due to their toxic impact on the aquatic ecosystem. Therefore, their removal has become an important topic. This study aims to produce high surface area-activated carbon derived from low-cost and environmentally friendly barley lignocellulosic wastes to remove OTC from aqueous solutions.

A novel mathematical model for modeling viscosity and temperature relationship for dead oils.

Viscosity is crucial in subsurface and surface transport, used in engineering domains like heat transfer and pipeline design. However, measurements are limited, necessitating predictive viscosity relationships. Existing models lack precision or pertain to limited fluids, and accurately forecasting dead oil viscosity remains challenging due to errors.

The aim of this research was to investigate the impact of Theory of Planned Behavior based intervention on breastfeeding patterns of the mothers with preterm infants: a randomized trial.

Macrolide-loaded nanofibrous inserts with polycaprolactone and cellulose acetate base for sustained ocular delivery: Pharmacokinetic study in Rabbit's eye.

The present study aimed to prepare nanofibrous inserts for sustained ocular drug delivery of Azithromycin (AZM) toward conquering the obstacles of conventional topical drug delivery. Nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning using polycaprolactone (PCL) and cellulose acetate (CA) which are biocompatible and biodegradable polymers. Prepared nanofibers were evaluated in terms of physicochemical, morphological properties, pharmacokinetic study and ocular irritation.

The Global Trends of Thyroid Cancer Research: A Scientometric Study.

Cancer of the thyroid has become the fastest-growing cancer among women in the past several decades. This study is aimed at using scientometric methods to identify research frontiers and development trends in the field of thyroid cancer (TC) research. We used the Scopus database to collect articles and reviews related to TC in November 2022.

Parvovirus B19 and Parvovirus 4 infections among healthy blood donors; A prevalence report from Iran.

Background: Parvoviruses, characterized by their tropism for blood cells, can manifest as asymptomatic infections. With their ability to persist in blood, assessing the prevalence of Parvovirus B19 (B19V) and Parvovirus 4 (PARV4) among healthy blood donors is essential for evaluating the potential transmission risks through blood transfusions, emphasizing the need for comprehensive screening protocols.

Methods: Four hundred blood donors participated in the study, with their blood specimens subjected to Real-Time PCR analysis for B19V and PARV4 nucleic acids after obtaining informed consent.
