A randomized controlled trial compared the effectiveness of semiocclusive dressing (SOD) using plastic wrap and low-adherent dressings versus occlusive dressing (OD) for treating stage III/IV pressure injuries in 77 participants.
Results showed that the SOD group had a greater reduction in wound surface area and better BWAT score improvements after 12 weeks than the OD group, with statistical significance.
SOD treatment was also significantly less costly, being 3 times cheaper than OD treatment, while showing a comparable incidence of adverse events.
