Purpose: Current guidelines for cardiovascular health emphasize a "dietary pattern" approach that could be expected to increase intakes of micronutrients in addition to altering the macronutrient profile. However, the effect of interventions such as cardiac rehabilitation on the micronutrient quality of the diet has not been evaluated. Background: Despite proven efficacy of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) in helping patients initiate physical activity and healthy eating changes, less than 50% of CR participants maintain changes 6 months later.

This article examined the intervention fidelity strategies used and lessons learned in a translational study. In this study, the behavioral intervention was delivered within an existing clinical practice environment, outpatient cardiac rehabilitation (CR). The primary lessons learned were that the fidelity components of design, training, and delivery of the intervention were the most different from fidelity strategies used in typical intervention studies.

This study tested the hypothesis that a culturally developed omega-3 (n-3) fatty acid food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) could be an accurate instrument to capture n-3 fatty acid food intakes of first-generation Midwestern Latinas. The goal of the study was to assess validity and test-retest reliability of an FFQ to estimate total n-3 fatty acid (total n-3), α-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) intakes. Physicians (n=262) were surveyed about their breastfeeding promotion practices, knowledge, and areas in which they need more information in order to be more influential with patients in the initiation and duration of the process. Over half (51%) reported no or limited education in breastfeeding, whereas only 9% reported adequate education. A knowledge assessment indicated almost half (42%) did not know certain viruses can be transmitted through breast milk.

Objective: Determine body image satisfaction, weight concerns and dieting behaviors, Tanner index, and dietary adequacy in young women and girls.

Design: A cross-sectional, self-selected comparative survey was completed.

Subjects/setting: Rural white women and girls (N=333) aged 8 to 17 years, completed a weight concerns and dieting behavior questionnaire, a body image assessment, and a self-rating of sexual maturity, and 230 subjects completed 3-day diet diaries.
