SPring-8-II is a major upgrade project of SPring-8 that was inaugurated in October 1997 as a third-generation synchrotron radiation light source. This upgrade project aims to achieve three goals simultaneously: achievement of excellent light source performance, refurbishment of aged systems, and significant reduction in power consumption for the entire facility. A small emittance of 50 pm rad will be achieved by (1) replacing the existing double-bend lattice structure with a five-bend achromat one, (2) lowering the stored beam energy from 8 to 6 GeV, (3) increasing the horizontal damping partition number from 1 to 1.

The overall survival (OS) of patients with prostate cancer (PCa) who receive locally definitive therapy is generally better than that of patients who do not receive definitive therapy. There is no difference in the incidence of local recurrence or distant metastasis between treatment modalities. Because the prognosis of PCa is relatively good, many studies have focused on quality of life after treatment as an endpoint.

  • Third-party punishment (TPP) is when someone who isn’t directly involved in a conflict punishes someone for wrongdoing, and it plays a key role in morality across cultures.
  • Research on male Wistar rats showed that those raised with lots of affection from humans exhibited TPP-like behaviors, while normally raised rats did not.
  • This suggests that TPP might not be exclusive to humans and could actually be a learned behavior that develops in nurturing environments.

Background And Objective: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common cancer in men. High-risk PCa is associated with an increased risk of PCa-related death. The combined use of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is essential to improve oncological outcomes in patients with high-risk PCa, and relatively long-term ADT administration is preferred when radiotherapy is performed.

Unlabelled: Human parainfluenza virus (HPIV) causes respiratory infections, which are exacerbated in children and older people. Correct evaluation of viral characteristics is essential for the study of countermeasures. However, adaptation of viruses to cultured cells during isolation or propagation might select laboratory passage-associated mutations that modify the characteristics of the virus.

A 76-year-old man who was diagnosed with urothelial carcinoma (UC) in the bladder diverticulum was referred to our institution. The patient was diagnosed with muscle-invasive bladder cancer, which was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging that showed tumor invasion into the fatty tissue surrounding the diverticulum. After two cycles of neoadjuvant gemcitabine and cisplatin, he underwent robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with pelvic lymph node dissection followed by intracorporeal ileal conduit.

In this study, we aimed to determine the utility of cytoreductive nephrectomy (CN) in real-world clinical practice and investigate whether CN contributes to improved oncological outcomes in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). This retrospective multicenter cohort study enrolled patients with mRCC who received systemic therapy at six institutions between May 2005 and May 2023. The patients were divided into those who did not undergo CN (Group I) and those who underwent CN (Group II).

Malignant tumors metastasizing to the bladder are uncommon, and bladder metastasis from uterine cancer is particularly rare. Several cases of bladder metastasis from malignant melanoma, gastric cancer, breast cancer, and renal cancer have been documented. However, to our knowledge, only four cases of bladder metastasis from endometrial cancer had been reported up until 2024.

  • The study focused on the SiPRR37 gene in foxtail millet, which influences heading time and adapts to different latitudes.
  • It uncovered a significant allele (TE1) with a 4.9-kb insertion found mainly in Southeast and South Asia, suggesting its role in geographical adaptation.
  • A new allele (TE2) with a smaller 360-bp insertion was discovered, and its distribution spans Japan, Korea, Nepal, Iran, and Turkey, indicating both alleles could help trace the spread of foxtail millet in Asia.

Accurate diagnosis of the localization of prostate cancer (PCa) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) remains a challenge. We aimed to assess discrepancy between the location of PCa pathologically diagnosed using surgical specimens and lesions indicated as possible PCa by the Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System on MRI. The primary endpoint was the concordance rate between the site of probable clinically significant PCa (csPCa) identified using biparametric MRI (bpMRI) and location of PCa in the surgical specimen obtained using robot-assisted total prostatectomy.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates prognostic factors for patients with pathological Grade Group 5 prostate cancer after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, focusing on a cohort of 217 men from ten Japanese medical centers.
  • The research found that the rates of biochemical recurrence-free survival (BCRFS) at 3 and 5 years were 66.1% and 57.7%, respectively, with positive surgical margins (PSMs) and the percentage of positive cancer cores (PPCC) identified as key independent predictors of survival outcomes.
  • Ultimately, the study suggests that monitoring PSMs and PPCC could significantly aid in predicting overall survival and disease progression in this high-risk patient group.

The reaction of arylidene-α-amino esters with electrophilic alkenes to yield Michael-type addition compounds is optimized using several phosphines as organocatalysts. The transformation is very complicated due to the generation of several final compounds, including those derived from the 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions. For this reason, the selection of the reaction conditions is a very complex task and the slow addition of the acrylic system is very important to complete the process.

Studies on the domestication, genetic differentiation, and crop evolution of foxtail millet are reviewed in this paper. Several genetic studies were carried out to elucidate the genetic relationships among foxtail millet accessions originating mainly from Eurasia based on intraspecific hybrid pollen semi-sterility, isozymes, DNA markers, and single-nucleotide polymorphisms. Most studies suggest that China is the center of diversity of foxtail millet, and landraces were categorized into geographical groups.
