Do Anionic π Molecules Aggregate in Solution? A Case Study with Multi-interactive Ligands and Network Formation.

An anionic π molecule can form an aggregate when a multi-interactivity is introduced, in sharp contrast to common anionic molecules that are generally difficult to stack on each other. We found that a multi-interactive ligand, 2,5,8-tri(4'-pyridyl)-1,3,4,6,7,9-hexaazaphenalenate (TPHAP ) exhibited a large Stokes shift and an intramolecular charge transfer, both of which were sensitive to hydrogen-bonding media. An anionic potassium salt of TPHAP in methanol formed various aggregation states depending on the concentration examined; this was revealed by steady-state spectroscopic and fluorescence lifetime measurements.

Castleman disease (CD) describes a spectrum of heterogeneous disorders defined by characteristic lymph node histopathology. A Long-term Survival after Surgical Treatment for Atypical Aortic Coarctation Complicating Takayasu Arteritis with Inactive Disease at the Diagnosis: An Appropriately Treated Autopsy Case.

The number of Takayasu arteritis (TAK) cases being diagnosed at an advanced age has increased, including some who develop ischemic lesions without inflammation of the involved arteries long after the onset of TAK. However, few histopathological analyses of such patients without immunosuppressive therapy have been reported. We herein report a 92-year-old woman with atypical aortic coarctation complicating TAK who underwent bypass graft surgery and survived for 23 years without immunosuppressive therapy.

Estrogen stimulates female cancer progression by inducing myeloid-derived suppressive cells: investigations on pregnant and non-pregnant experimental models.

Objective: To investigate the clinical implications of 17β-estradiol (E2) in estrogen receptor α (ERα)-negative female cancer progression as well as the underlying biological mechanisms.

Methods: Clinical data from 306 locally-advanced cervical cancer (stage IIB-IVA) patients were analyzed in order to investigate the relationships between age, serum E2 levels, and treatment outcomes. Clinical samples, ERα-negative cervical and breast cancer cell lines, and mouse xenograft models of cervical and breast cancers were employed in order to elucidate the mechanisms responsible for the E2- and pregnancy-mediated progression of cervical and breast cancers, with a focus on the role of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC).

A novel model for treatment of hypertrophic pachymeningitis.

Objective: Immunoglobulin (Ig)G4-related disease is a major cause of hypertrophic pachymeningitis (HP), presenting as a progressive thickening of the dura mater. HP lacks an animal model to determine its underlying mechanisms. We developed a suitable animal model for the treatment of HP.

New Mastoparan Peptides in the Venom of the Solitary Eumenine Wasp .

Comprehensive LC-MS and MS/MS analysis of the crude venom extract from the solitary eumenine wasp revealed the component profile of this venom mostly consisted of small peptides. The major peptide components, eumenine mastoparan-EM1 (EMP-EM1: LKLMGIVKKVLGAL-NH₂) and eumenine mastoparan-EM2 (EMP-EM2: LKLLGIVKKVLGAI-NH₂), were purified and characterized by the conventional method. The sequences of these new peptides are homologous to mastoparans, the mast cell degranulating peptides from social wasp venoms; they are 14 amino acid residues in length, rich in hydrophobic and basic amino acids, and C-terminal amidated.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to clarify the radiologic and clinical characteristics of multiple unilateral subcapsular cortical hemorrhagic cystic disease of the kidney.

Method: Fourteen patients with unique and characteristic multiple hemorrhagic subcapsular cortical cysts of the kidney, not categorized in any existing renal cystic diseases, were retrospectively reviewed. The clinical information including age, sex, symptom, family history of renal or renal cystic disease, and laboratory data were collected.

We here characterized 27 japonica rice cultivars grown in Heilongjiang province and evaluated the relationship among their iodine absorption curve, physical properties, and ratio of 13 kDa prolamin. We developed the novel estimation formulae for ratio of 13 kDa prolamin and overall hardness (H2) with the use of A and λmax.

A case report of crystalline light chain inclusion-associated kidney disease affecting podocytes but without Fanconi syndrome: A clonal analysis of pathological monoclonal light chain.

Rationale: Crystalline light chain inclusion-associated kidney disease affects mainly tubular epithelial cells and is often clinically manifested as Fanconi syndrome. However, only very few case reports about the crystalline deposits within the podocytes are available, and the nature of the pathogenic monoclonal light chain implicated in these cases is still unknown. We report a case of crystalline inclusion-associated kidney disease manifested as crystalline podocytopathy in which we identified the complete structure of the pathogenic monoclonal light chain as belonging to the germ-line gene of Vκ1-39.

Objective: Accumulated evidence collected via functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) has been reported with regard to mental disorders. A previous finding revealed that emotional words evoke left frontal cortex activity in patients with depression. The primary aim of the current study was to replicate this finding using an independent dataset and evaluate the brain region associated with the severity of depression using an emotional Stroop task.
