Sciatic hernia, a rare type of pelvic floor hernia, presents significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report the first totally extraperitoneal (TEP) repair of a sciatic hernia, which was performed in a 63-year-old woman who presented with vomiting and poor dietary intake. Computed tomography revealed a strangulated femoral hernia and an incidental herniation of the sigmoid colon through the right sciatic foramen.

The present study was designed to determine whether N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a potent antioxidant, modulates nitric oxide (NO) production stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) in adipocytes. Stimulation by the combination of 5 microg/ml of LPS and 100 ng/ml of TNF-alpha (LT) significantly enhanced NO production in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Preincubation of the cells with NAC (5-20 mM) for 24 h suppressed the increased NO production in a dose-dependent manner.
