Chronotropic incompetence (CTI), the inability of the heart to increase its rate with increased activity, leads to exercise intolerance and predicts overall mortality. We previously reported that cardiac β-adrenergic receptor downregulation occurs in patients with CTI without heart failure (HF), indicating postsynaptic sympathetic nervous dysfunction. However, cardiac presynaptic sympathetic nervous system function in CTI is not fully understood.

We assessed CBP indices before and after TAVI and their prognostic value. Seventy-six patients with severe AS who underwent TAVI were retrospectively evaluated, and CBP was estimated noninvasively 1 day before and after TAVI.

This study aimed to elucidate the clinical characteristics and short-term outcomes in patients undergoing IABP-Impella escalation.
Methods And Results: From the Japanese nationwide registry of Impella (J-PVAD), a total of 2578 patients with CS receiving Impella support were classified into the IABP-Impella group (n = 189) or the Primary Impella group (n = 2389).
Background: Coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) is associated with angina symptoms and adverse clinical outcomes in patients without obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). Malondialdehyde-modified low-density lipoprotein (MDA-LDL) is reportedly a marker of the initiation and acceleration of epicardial coronary atherosclerosis. However, its impact on CMD remains unclear.

We evaluated the effect of dabigatran by thromboelastography (TEG) to determine adequate heparin dose for CPB.
Case Presentation: An 81-year-old woman receiving both heparin and dabigatran was scheduled for an emergency surgical repair of iatrogenic atrial septal perforation.
This study aims to develop a new heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) diagnostic algorithm tailored to Asian populations, addressing limitations of current diagnostic models. Existing HFpEF diagnostic algorithms primarily target patients with dyspnea and metabolic comorbidities, such as obesity, which are more prevalent in Western populations. However, in Asian countries, HFpEF cases are less frequently associated with obesity, leading to less prominent dyspnea and more noticeable symptoms such as fatigue.

The pathophysiological role and prognostic utility of AVP elevation in acute decompensated HF (ADHF) are poorly understood. We prospectively enrolled 52 hospitalized patients for ADHF to investigate the association between acute lung injury (ALI) in ADHF and AVP levels on admission.

However, its mechanical complications are still poorly understood. A 71-year-old woman developed MINOCA after ascending aortic replacement surgery.

This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of superb microvascular imaging (SMI) in evaluating renal circulation in HF patients.
Method: The study included 71 HF patients undergoing cardiac catheterization.
Objectives: We aimed to identify which resting echocardiographic parameters can detect asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic patients with primary mitral regurgitation (MR) who require exercise stress echocardiography (ESE) to determine their suitability for surgery.
Methods: We examined 56 consecutive patients with primary moderate/severe MR who underwent ergometer-based ESE. Patients who met the surgical indications at rest were excluded.
Folate, also known as vitamin B9, is an essential cofactor for a variety of enzymes and plays a crucial role in many biological processes. We previously reported that plastidial folate prevents starch biosynthesis triggered by the influx of sugar into non-starch-accumulating plastids, such as etioplasts, and chloroplasts under darkness; hence the loss of plastidial folate induces the accumulation of starch in plastids. To understand the molecular mechanism underlying this phenomenon, we screened our in-house chemical library and searched their derivatives to identify chemicals capable of inducing starch accumulation in etioplasts.

This study aimed to determine the benefits of subnormothermic extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP) in a porcine model of DCD liver. Female domestic crossbred Large Yorkshire and Landrace pigs weighing approximately 20 kg were used.

This study aims to determine the benefits of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (HOPE) in a large animal model of DCD liver.
Methods: After cardiac arrest, the abdominal aorta and the inferior vena cava were cannulated and connected to an ECMO circuit.
Background: The number of patients with heart failure (HF) has increased, and it is crucial to prevent the development of HF in patients at risk of HF. The present study aimed to risk stratify patients in Stage A and B HF based on associations between exercise-induced changes in aortic stiffness and exercise tolerance.
Methods and results: Patients in Stage A and B HF who performed a cardiopulmonary exercise test were enrolled in the study (n=106; median age 65.
Matcha green tea is made from powdered green tea leaves. Unlike regular green tea, Matcha green tea is believed to exert beneficial effects on the gut microbiota, as it is richer in nutrients such as tea catechins and insoluble dietary fiber. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effects of consumption of Matcha green tea on the gut microbiota.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum malondialdehyde-modified low-density lipoprotein (MDA-LDL) level, a potentially potent indicator of atherosclerosis, and clinical outcomes after EVT in patients with lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD).
Methods: A total of 208 LEAD patients who underwent EVT and MDA-LDL measurements were retrospectively analyzed.
As the quality of image generation by deep learning increases, it is becoming difficult to discern its authenticity from the image alone. Currently, generative models represented by generative adversarial networks (GAN) are increasingly utilized in the research field of cardiology, and their potential risks are also being pointed out. In this context, we assessed whether expert cardiologists can detect synthesized myocardial perfusion images (MPI) generated by GAN as fake.

This study aimed to investigate the correlation between resting GLS and myocardial perfusion parameters in patients with a normal left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). We evaluated whether resting GLS can predict myocardial perfusion abnormalities in these patients.

Although calcium channel blockers are considered first-line drugs to prevent coronary vasospasm, they also have the potential to induce ST elevation and ventricular fibrillation (VF) in BrS. Therefore, the optimal medication for such a complicated case is still underdetermined.

This article gives dominant research contributions of the late Dr. Eiichi Tanaka in the field of very weak radioactivity measurements with a new type of an extremely low background β-ray scintillation spectrometer, which consists of a large plastic scintillator and a gas-flow GM counter located in the small hollow in the bottom part of the plastic scintillator. The pulse signals from plastic scintillator are coincidence-gated by the pulses from the GM counter.
