Trehalose (Tre) is composed of two molecules of D-glucose joined by an α,α-1,1 glucosidic linkage. Because Tre is utilized by the gut microbiome and enhances gut immunity in chickens, it is used as a feed ingredient. However, taste preference and metabolic dynamics of Tre in chickens are not fully understood.

The present study examined whether potentially traumatic peer experience, such as forms of peer victimization (relational and overt), influences the longitudinal association between forms of aggression (relational and overt) and social-psychological adjustment problems (internalizing and externalizing) among Japanese adolescents. Gender differences in the mediation of peer victimization were also examined.

We developed a technique combining the deployment of only the distal basket segment of the EMBOTRAP III and an aspiration catheter (AC) for M2 occlusions, called the "ONE-SEG technique," and evaluated its clinical and technical impacts.
Methods: This was a retrospective review of 30 consecutive patients with M2 segment middle cerebral artery occlusion treated using the ONE-SEG technique.
Predation shapes diversity in the defensive tactics of prey. One specialized defensive tactic is to escape the digestive system of the predator after capture. While most of these defensive tactics involve passive ejection alive from predators' mouths and vents, active escape from the digestive tracts of predators has recently been observed in certain invertebrate species and fish.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLipomatous pseudohypertrophy of the pancreas (LPH) is a rare disease in which the pancreatic parenchyma is replaced with mature adipose tissue. It is an idiopathic condition whose diagnosis is made based on histopathological analyses. Herein, we report the case of a 50-year-old male patient with a lipomatous mass in the head of the pancreas on computed tomography for close examination of a renal tumor.

Nuclear factor (NF)-κB signaling is not only important for the immune and inflammatory responses but also for the normal development of epithelial cells, such as those in the skin and tooth. Here, we generated epithelial cell-specific p65-deficient (p65) mice to analyze the roles of NF-κB signaling in epithelial cell developent. Notably, p65 mice exhibited no abnormalities in their appearance compared to the control (p65) littermates.

Recently, we developed a multistage vaccine for based on a heterologous prime-boost immunization regimen utilizing the attenuated vaccinia virus strain LC16m8Δ (m8Δ)-prime and adeno-associated virus type 1 (AAV1)-boost, and demonstrated 100% protection and more than 95% transmission-blocking (TB) activity in the mouse model.

To address this challenge, we have developed an automated escape system that responds quickly to an approaching predator and pulls the prey away from the predator rapidly, similar to real prey. Reaction distance, response latency, escape speed and other variables can be adjusted in the system.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe psychosocial correlates and consequences of peer victimization are well documented. However, there is limited knowledge about whether different forms of peer victimization (relational and physical) are predictive of school-based social and motivational factors among adolescents from non-Western cultures. The present study examined the relationship between individual and school-level forms of peer victimization and school adjustment among Japanese adolescents, and the mediating role that these factors may play.

Methods: The study was conducted by randomised parallel-group comparison of healthy men aged 21-24 years. In Study 1, participants were divided into two groups and consumed either a 70% animal protein diet (AD, n = 6) or a 70% plant protein diet (PD, n = 6).
Objective: Olfactory and gustatory functions are important sensory aspects in humans. Although they are believed to influence each other, their interrelationship is not well understood. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the olfactory and gustatory functions based on the results of a large-scale epidemiological study (Iwaki Health Promotion Project) of the general local population.

We used 19,819 paired and simultaneously measured CGM values of 13 patients with diabetes. The average CGM value was significantly higher (P < 0.

Diffusion-weighted imaging showed a high-intensity lesion in the right insular cortex. Although there seemed to be no arterial occlusion in magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), non-contrast computed tomography (CT) on admission showed calcification in the right Sylvian fissure.

However, our knowledge of school enjoyment, and particularly its changes and trajectories among adolescents living in non-Western cultures, is limited. The present study used 3-year longitudinal data to examine changes and trajectories in school enjoyment and their associations with social and relational factors, such as mental health problems and peer victimization, among Japanese middle school students.

We used an AB design to investigate the alterations of gait function before and after inserting a heel lift on the non-operative side. [Participant and Methods] The participant had a patient-perceived leg length difference after THA and presented with gait disturbance.
